Hannaha859 - thanks for the info and the heads up about the cost of replacing the sensor. At that price I’ll just put up with it; it’s not exactly essential. Oddly enough, it does occasionally work ok. Weird!

I’m constantly getting a “please clean front parking sensors” message, despite the sensors being scrupulously clean. One, however, does have a very small scratch - possibly a stone chip. Could this be the reason? Anyone else had the problem?

I've found that opening then closing (or vice-versa) the blind normally stops the creaking. Annoying though.

But does anyone know why the tow hitch can't be used for towing, and why it doesn't have type approval? I tried asking VW Technical Assistance but they couldn't (or wouldn't) answer the question.
