Re: Driving on snow

My first experience of driving the ID.3 on snow and ice was over the last couple of days and had a couple of hairy moments. Most notably when the backend swung out when turning 90 degrees onto a (not very steep) downward slope. Took it very slowly but the car did not like driving on compacted snow ...

Re: Driving on snow

So far, my Born on 19" Contis has been driveable. I've seen a little traction control light-up. We're pretty well salted around here, apart from the nearest 3 short roads. My wife has started a new job up in Morpeth and the car skidded a tiny bit on a turn off to a side road (the other Born, al...

Re: Driving on snow

We were out this afternoon before it started snowing. Headed home as soon as we could and it was coming down heavily by the time we got to the bottom of the hill we live on. There was probably 2-3cm maximum of fresh and the car was awful, back end sliding all over the place. About 50m from the top ...

If you get no bites here, I'd be looking at Motorway.co.uk.

Re: Lane Assist is downright dangerous

I have to agree that Lane Assist is there are a failsafe mechanism, in the same way that emergency braking is. Similarly travel assist slows the car down when the car in front slows down. I don't see any of these systems independently replacing a driver, but they all act as failsafes. Similarly to ...

I'm sure I can help out there, if I haven't already provided instructions previously. If you have an old one with a lifetime Pro account, you can long code it with no credits spent.

Re: ECU needs replacing

Er.... had to laugh at monkeyhanger's wit, but strangely..... when our id3 max was in for its protracted 2.4 update (lots of things went wrong) we had a 70-reg poverty-spec id3, and lordy, it did indeed feel noisier: more road noise even though it had the same tyres as ours (the 'plastic' Bridgesto...

Re: ECU needs replacing

Luckily I have been given an ID3 as a courtesy car but it’s not the same as mine, feels cheaper and noisy. Oh yes, there's a separate line in Zwickau dedicated to only Tour Pro S ID3s. All of the people working on the line are from the Bentley and Bugatti sites and hand build them, filling the cavit...

Re: Battery and range

The car heats the battery but with later software versions it doesn't do it when sat on the drive or for short slow journeys. How does the car determine you're going to undertake a short journey? Whether an ID3 on 2.0, 2.1 or 2.3, or a Born on 3.0, my winter short journey efficiency has been crap. ...

Re: Dashcam

Just wired mine in, there are some good YouTube videos. Most people wire them into the rear wiper fuse whick is on the ignition so goes off when the car is rurned off. Sounds like they wired into the wrong fuse that's not on ignition I agree it has been installed incorrectly. If it has parking moni...

I think I've been watching too many American movies where drivers argue with their kids on the back seats for 30s or more when I imagined you doing exactly that.

Re: Lane Assist is downright dangerous

^That is exactly it's intent, to allow you to do something inherently unsafe and be pretty sure there's no consequence. I'd think your "controversial" stuff above is incredibly dangerous, especially at motorway speeds, no matter how quiet you think the motorway is. Taking your hands off th...

Re: Battery and range

Unless you're driving like a nun around the doors, or hypermiling 6ft behind an Eddie Stobart Lorry doing 58mph on the motorway, there's no way anyone in an ID3 or Born is averaging 4.5 miles per kWh in Summer, let alone the Winter. I am not sure how a nun drives around doors? I have 20-25 miles ea...

Re: Lane Assist is downright dangerous

In terms of lane assist, it's definitely better at doing what it's supposed to do on the motorway. It keeps you in-lane properly rather than half over the white line and the movements are more graduated. It's no different when it comes to being annoying on smaller roads though as far as I've notice...

Re: Lane Assist is downright dangerous

I wonder if the slow start up of the infotainment system, is more to do with hardware than software? If so, early cars may never see a boot up improvement. My Born has always had 3.0. Straight out of the box, it was much quicker than my 2.3 ID3...until I registered with the app. Makes me wonder whe...

Re: Lane Assist is downright dangerous

If you're driving with due care and attention anyway, there's no advantage to LA, its there to mitigate careless/inattentive driving and gain the car a higher NCAP score, lowering insurance costs.

Re: Lane Assist is downright dangerous

If anyone's in or near the North Tyneside area, I can use my OBD11 to turn it off (or make it selectable so that it remembers to stay off if you turn it off) Does that count as making a change to manufacturer specification, which is supposed to be notified to the insurer? Probably not. You are able...

Re: Lane Assist is downright dangerous

It's a solution to a problem that doesn't exist, unless you're really not paying attention to the road It's there to mitigate the risk of driving and texting/applying make up etc. It's also poorly executed. Even ignoring standing water and poor lane markings, if you're driving wide to avoid all thos...
