Re: Driving in France & Spain
Doing our first EV European trip from Dieppe to the bottom of Spain soon. For this first run, we'll mainly stick to the motorway networks. I have a WeCharge card and an Octopus Electric Universe card and the Telsa app on my phone. I'm hoping that most of the EV chargers will accept contactless cred...

Re: VW Customer Services UK - terrible experience
To be unpopular, there's a 3rd party involved (or 4th) here. You don't have home charging, but clearly over the 11 months you managed to charge the car. What was the issue you had, which chargers etc. Not enough information to go on. VW (and most large corporation customer services) can be atrociou...

Re: VW Customer Services UK - terrible experience
To be really unpopular...given when you bought it, i'm betting you bought it with a decent discount, grant, finance deposit contribution etc. If that's the case, if you'd sold that ID3 via Motorway rather than simply giving it back, you'd have gotten a fair bit of equity. There's no way I'd have an...

Re: Electric cars now more expensive per mile than diesel
It’s not that much difference when you go for a coffee, sandwich and a pee then fill up with diesel and drive off vs plug in and go for a coffee, sandwich and a pee, then unplug and drive off. Btw 12.5p per kWh is about £17 for an equivalent ‘full tank’. I am paying 7.5p until Oct 2023. Things aren...

Re: Electric cars now more expensive per mile than diesel
Probably more like 350-400 if you did 80-10% of your tank of diesel! 😁 Exactly. Ps. If you are going on a long journey, charge to 100%. I do 90% overnight and finish the final 10% in the morning before setting off. Pps. But it’s all about your personal requirements in the end. How many very long ru...

Re: Electric cars now more expensive per mile than diesel
Probably more like 350-400 if you did 80-10% of your tank of diesel! 😁 The difference being that the diesel can "rapid charge" (refill the tank)at the rate of about 200 miles for every minute at the pumps. We're all starting to see cracks in the EV argument as the electricity prices shoot...

Re: Electric cars now more expensive per mile than diesel
The other perspective. Quite common for many people. I live near Skipton West Yorkshire and my daughter in St Albans. 198 miles. Charge 100% at home, 7.5p per kWh, Do a comfort break in Milton Keynes Ionity and top up a bit to be safe (£10). Granny charge at my daughters. Similar stop off for the re...

Re: Electric cars now more expensive per mile than diesel
Motorway service stations do get a steady stream of custom and are profitably so I’m not sure they are completely irrelevant for long motorway trips. I bought my ID3 for £30k and sold it 2 years and 18,000 miles later for £33k. So right now they are almost an investment (although obv price is a huge...

Re: Electric cars now more expensive per mile than diesel
These gloom and doom comparisons need to consider the price of fuel at motorway service stations (they usually don’t). Also 450 miles isn’t that much to draw a conclusion, especially as usually much of that would be covered by a home charge before departure. But yes pricing for On-The-Go EV charging...

Re: ID3 pro performance vs new Niro EV
Intereating review thanks. Bjorn has been doing some tests with a new Niro, the charging seems slightly better than advertised - he was getting 83kw through to 30%. I'm amazed you found the ID3 suspension crashy - I think it's very good. Maybe they aren't all the same. (Sort of related) I test drov...

Re: ID3 pro performance vs new Niro EV
On the low Niro EV 72kwh max charge rate. It is offset somewhat by a good charging curve and battery preconditioning if you satnav to a charger.
I tested it by satnaving to a 50kwh charger, got 42kwh at 70% SOC. Decent.

ID3 pro performance vs new Niro EV
Having owned an ID3 1st Edition for best part of 2 years and having just bought a new Niro EV3 (now 200 miles) I said I would do a quick comparison for anyone interested… The Niro EV is front wheel drive, has 4 disc brakes, 17 inch rims, one pedal driving, similar bhp but 20% less torque than ID3, m...

Hi got the same 1st edition 12/20. Had my update to 2.4 at the dealer yesterday. All went well in and out in the day, including battery change. Todate I have not been able to download anything, always a trip to the dealer, who are thank goodness excellent. What do you mean by ‘not been able to downloa...

Moving on
Just to say I’ve now sold my ID3 and moved on to a Niro EV so won’t be on the forum much in future. (I’ll do a quick ID3 vs Niro EV post for anyone interested). Thanks for all the helpful advice and for being a friendly bunch! I still think the ID3 is an extremely good car which will only get better...

Re: Would you order from vw again?
I think the short answer is not in a hurry. Mainly due to the bad experience with VW customer services and my VW dealer around me having to pay £450 to replace my ID3 disc brake system after 11k miles. Also confidence tainted by the software issues over my 2 years of owning a 1st edition. It’s been ...

Re: 2.4 update and battery replacement
I got mine back after a week and a control module replacement. Nothing major to note, other than the car feels a lot more sluggish than it used to. Now it's not as bad as an ICE but there's definitely not as much umph as it used to have. Has anyone else noticed this phenomenon? Mine feels exactly t...
