Re: Delighted

Update half way through journey. Left Chichester West Sussex this morning with battery 100% temperature 4 degrees. Did not exceed 70 MPH but kept close to it. Recharged with EON fast charger (150kw capable) for 22 minutes on North side of Birmingham. Arrived Rochdale with 98 miles remaining. Now re...

Re: Best practice heating

Preheating from battery doesn't make any sense from a battery saving perspective. The car will need to get the temperature whether it's standing stationary or if it's being driven along. It will arguably be more efficient to wait until you are in the car for two reasons. 1. You are in the car provid...

Re: Battery status

Agreed totally. Where I live there are free rapid chargers every 100km or so, so I’ve never had to stress out. This weekend we decided to test the 408km range communicated, very happy indeed. Question, aircon seems WAY more efficient than heating, is that correct or am I just trying to convince mys...

Re: Delayed charging

I too am struggling with this. Charging works OK on a plug in and go basis but even this is only after a try it and see basis session. Can anyone tell me where I can find an idiots guide to charging N ID3? When I say idiot I mean idiot! Do you need to turn on ignition before you start? When in char...

Re: Interior lighting brightness

Just the regular interior lighting when you open the door. I have found how to dim the instrument cluster etc, but not this. I know you can touch the lights and hold it down to change them manually, buti was surprised not to find an option yet to change the brightness of this. No such option that I...

Re: Interior lighting brightness

You mean the regular interior lighting like you'd have in any other car? Or the instrument lighting and "background" lighting? Just the regular interior lighting when you open the door. I have found how to dim the instrument cluster etc, but not this. I know you can touch the lights and h...

Interior lighting brightness

I can't figure out for the life of me how to change this, when you open the doors at night. The car lights up like Wembley Stadium. I know I can disable the lighting for opening the door prior to doing it, bit fan you adjust the brightness by default?

Re: I’ve given up and cancelled my order

So, when will cars arrive at dealerships with 2.1 already installed? I'm sure someone on this forum said they were building them (version 2.1 installed) from calendar week eight, which is quite a while ago! Don't forget that process from start to finish is around 3-4 months. Therefore if they said ...

Re: What’s Up with the charging speeds ?

I did have a much better speed today, so having seen that graph it makes more sense. I pulled up at my local instavolt centre which is up to 125kw/h, been driving around for two hours and 20 degrees outside, got up up 80 kw/h which isn't bad. Only did it for 5 minutes though, as I just wanted to tes...

Re: I’ve given up and cancelled my order

Sad to hear Jono, but I understand your frustration. I am hoping to get an ID3 Life later in the year; with 2.1 or 2.2 already onboard and ready for OTA updates. I live at least 100 miles from my nearest dealer here in Scotland - I don't want to have to make multiple visits! I wish you well with wh...

Re: What’s Up with the charging speeds ?

Since this thread is still going and I haven't seen this posted yet, I think this graph can clear up a lot of confusion about speeds and when you can expect what charge rate: https://cdn.motor1.com/images/custom/fast-charging-of-volkswagen-id3-pro-source-fastned.png That said, please do note that t...

Re: What’s Up with the charging speeds ?

The tesco pod point is an AC charger isn't it? so the max the id3 can charge is 11kw/hr, don't know why you had problems with the instavolt. Yes, after reading up you're right I will only get 11kw out of that. I presume my battery just still wasn't hot enough to get a higher kw/hr from instavolt.

Re: What’s Up with the charging speeds ?

Ok, I’m writing this while I sit plugged into an ionity rapid charger (capable of upto 350kW), charging at around 60kW. I thought I’d phone them up and ask why it wasn’t maxing out at 100kW... Turns out there’s a few potential reasons. Optimum charging speed relies on several things: - a battery <2...

The charger should give you either a current kWh rate or a total kWh for a completed session.
I see, maybe I was just remembering the videos incorrectly.

Charging speed units

I took delivery two days ago and all going well so far, apart from one thing I can't seem to find the answer to. I noticed on a lot of online videos when connected to a charger, people are quoting how many kW they are getting. However mine seems to quote it In miles per hour. Not that it's the end o...

New Life Pro Performance

Picked it up two days ago. Been pretty much a VW driver for most of my life. I had a 16 year old Polo when I passed my test in the UK, then my dad's Mark 2 Golf GTI then didn't own a car for ten years as I lived in London, then some BMW. But 2015 I had a brand new Polo Blue GT (Amazing car), 2017 Ti...
