Battery degradation

Li-Ion batteries degrade over time, more so if you treat them harshly (full discharge/100% recharge cycles, constant DC charging). I paid some attention yesterday, as I put the car on the Source London charger at 20%. Given that it was free after four hours (overnight cut-off), I charged to 90% as I...

Re: Best winter tyres?

Thanks! It depends on the region, in some regions snow chains are mandatory regardless of your tire I think?

The most curious thing happened

Well if you read the Facepalm posts on all the ills of the ID.3 it is curious anyway. This weekend saw very heavy use of the car, including a roundtrip on Friday to the West Country (290 miles) and two football games in the frozen North (Barnet and Hendon) on Saturday and Sunday, seeing 70 and 50 mi...

Re: kWh added during a charge?

The app let's you see the initial state of charge (SoC) and the one at end. Take note of it and then: "End SoC - Starting SoC * battery size / 100 = kWh delivered", e.g. (100%-21%)*77kWh/100%=60.83kWh

Re: Charging curves - Ionity and Gridserve

Screen Shot 2021-11-21 at 1.19.36 PM.jpg Here's an Ionity charging curve from the summer that covers similar SoC ranges. It just isn't that stable. I could post others, but they never are. I'm just wondering if there is some control software difference in the charging unit, or what? All the best An...

Re: Charging curves - Ionity and Gridserve

As noted in the post, the order of charge was always Gridserve followed by Ionity. Chippenham the only one where I went for Ionity straight away as they were free when I got there. From memory, even at lower SoC the Ionity curves always looked like this, and never as straight as the Gridserve ones. ...

All fixed and added the other three curves for good measure.

Thoughts, observations?

Re: Charging curves - Ionity and Gridserve

No sorry, just the way the pictures uploaded. Gridserve was first, and this was after driving ca. 60 miles at 70mph and with a preheated car (programmed departure but not on charger).

Charging curves - Ionity and Gridserve

I did back to back charging on Gridserve and Ionity twice yesterday, as an experiment, and because I was hoping Ionity would charge faster (it's also a bit cheaper for me). Today I checked the charge curves, and in both cases (only one set posted here), it appears to me that grid serve has a much mo...

3.0 Software Update

I understand that vehicles built from 1 Dec will have 3.0 installed as standard and that it will come as an OTA in the near future. Given the 'fun' we all had with 2.3, what are the bets that they will apply lessons learnt and make the update more straightforward this time (presuming they can)? Is t...

Gridserve Westmorland Charger - Southbound

Morning Has anyone used the charger - is it operational, and does one need anything other than a credit card? Gridserve website indicates all is good, but I understand they are the old Ecotricity chargers, and have a history of issues in general (no idea about the specific one). I suddenly have to g...

It's Austria. They do actually have real winters. Still.

I'd imagine that's DC not AC. As I think AC is hardware limited.

Re: Creaking dashboard

Yes, we have the same. It's worse when the car is cold, and as you note on unimproved roads. Apparently it's related to the fixing of the HUD unit in the dashboard, so doubt there is much you can do.

Hive mind, go!

Also need recommendation for snow chains as I may be driving to an area of Italy where carrying them in the boot is mandatory.

Re: Cold weather is here - range hit

Some further observations. Short-range trips in cold weather are a killer due to the battery pre-heating overhead. Range drops to 3.1 m/kWh or below for me. Yesterday I took the car on a cross-London return trip (lots of traffic jams, max speed 40mph), and even at cooler morning temperatures it got ...
