Re: Timed Charging
Still waiting for my Podpoint so I am relying on a three pin plug (alias Granny charger) and the car's own timer controls which really are pretty awful. I have only twice managed a full four hour charge a 2kW (with occasional flashes of 2.5) to match our Octopus Go tariff. That was achieved by setti...

Re: Stupid question no 1001...
I keep mine in the car. Most of the AC chargers that I have used do not have tethered cables. Even if you intend to use DC chargers when on a journey you will find the occasion when one is out of order. We had an occasion in France when the DC charger we were aiming for was out of order. There were ...

Re: Can you use IPOD Classic in ID.3?
My iPod Classic works fine in our Merc, and worked fine on our VW Eos, so there must be an audio signal coming down the cable. It's a pity that the ID.3 fails to recognise it as I must have getting on for 100Gb of music on it. I might have to try a USB flash drive and put a few files on it before lo...

Re: Unexplained reduced range
If you look at the graph of range, it would seem that the "range reduction" occurred pretty quickly. We drove that fast and in awful rain throughout the 2nd and by the 3rd the ID predicted range was right down. So range reduction reflects very recent driving, maybe the lat 24 hours. Intere...

Re: Unexplained reduced range
Screenshot 2021-10-15 at 9.26.51.png Screenshot 2021-10-15 at 9.26.51.png I promised an update on our French trip. You may remember that from new with general UK driving we had a predicted maximum range of 360 miles. After battling through horrendous rain at 110 kph in France the maximum range fell...

Re: How to stop being a free charging point?
We as owners of EVs need to set the standard. If you use someone else's electricity to charge (whether Granny cable or callbox) we should pay for the electricity. And that does not mean make a half-hearted gesture to pay. We should have a good idea of how many kWh we have added to our car battery (n...

Re: Unexplained reduced range
I appreciate that the car can only predict the range based on recent or current driving experience (or a combination of both). From new we charged our 77kWh ID.3 very slowly on a normal mains three pin plug and charged to 80%. Extrapolating from the predicted range when charged to 80% we could have ...

Re: VW e-Pass in France?
Apart from Ionity, I have found it impossible to tell which networks can be accessed with the We Charge card. If you identify a charger of interest using Zapmap in the UK or ChargeMap in France and then see if the same charger is visible in the map of the We Charge app then you will find that a larg...

Warming the battery
Another question if I may. If you switch on the heating/air conditioning does that also warm the battery? I gather that batteries function better, both in terms of delivering up their power and in taking on charge when they are being re-charged if they are warm. Some EVs I believe specifically prepa...

Pedestrian Warning Sound
Is this something which we are able to switch on and off?
If so, I am very inclined to think that ours is switched off. Either that or I'm going deaf. I'm blessed if I can hear anything much.
I do like the silence, but I can see the logic of a warning sound.

How much does speed affect range?
So far overall we're getting 3.9 mi/kWh. Improved to 4.4 mi/kWh when less than a quarter was on motorways. I tend to drive (rather predictably) at 70 mph on UK motorways and 130 kph in France. I appreciate that if we drive more slowly the whole journey will take longer, but if it means fewer stops t...
