Electric Drive Error Message

Just had a two day update 5 weeks ago. Since then done only about 70 miles and a message pops up saying "visit workshop, electric drive not working properly". We ring the dealer (Lookers) who wants £140 to look at it and says because it is 3 weeks out of warranty they will not change their mind on this cost.
The car has only done 3000 miles since new (it's my wifes and is a second car)
This is the second ID3 she's had. The first one packed in on it's first outing and was in the dealers for about four months before they decided they couldn't fix it and gave her a replacement.
Anybody else had this sort of charge so close to the warranty ending/ just after an update?

If the update you are referring to is the dealer 3.2 one then this shows up any problems with the battery modules. This can happen immediately or after a few miles. It should be covered by the VW 8 year battery warranty. They should have also done a battery check during the update, I would ask if it passed the test.

I don't think it's in the app. The car is out at the moment so I cant check where the software version is. I would have thought in settings? I will check later when the car gets back.

Go into system (second screen) then scroll down to system information. Mine shows 0561 but this is 3.2, the latest available. If you have a % charge symbol in the small screen you are on the latest software as far as I know.

Thanks again. Yes Iv'e found it. 3.2.
I did the infotainment reset last night and again today but at the time no difference.
Tonight the fault has gone. If it stays away I will cancel the service appointment.

On the day the factory warranty expired, my ID.3 received an update to 3.2, a 12-volt battery change and the high-voltage battery pack had been checked (recall). There were no problems with the battery pack. After 3 weeks I had problems with the infotainment system and the car suddenly stopped driving. The dealer does not know what is going on and the car has now been sent to the importer for a diagnosis. I'm curious to see what will come of this. It worries me that a 2-year-old car is having these problems and I hope that in my case it is an exceptional situation.

Call me cynical but is it a coincidence that the two id3's get called for a 3.2 update just before warranty expires? then the problems happen a couple of weeks out of warranty.
If 3.2 was available early last year then why does the dealer wait until the warranty is due to expire?

I'm amazed you got called by the dealer at all. Most people didn't. You have been able to get it overall year but it has been down to the driver to book it in. Otherwise, it should just get picked up when the car is next in (eg for a service). There is no conspiracy.Folkramfer wrote: ↑Tue Jun 04, 2024 6:30 pm Call me cynical but is it a coincidence that the two id3's get called for a 3.2 update just before warranty expires? then the problems happen a couple of weeks out of warranty.

Use VW Assist. Tell them you are not happy to drive the car with the warning message in case there is another background fault and without it having been properly diagnosed. They should take the car to a battery centre if you ask, and get you a hire car. Your car will get higher priority like that than if you book it in normally.
You'll likely need to collect the hire car at the nearest Enterprise and collect your car when fixed from the dealer it is dropped at.

Somebody did advise that but VW assist were as much use as VW dealers - it's my wife's lease/company car and between the lease company and the dealers nobody seems to care. It still works fine so it's getting used and when it goes back it's someone else's problem!sidehaas wrote: ↑Thu Jun 06, 2024 6:25 amUse VW Assist. The thing is it hasn't put us off the EV as a concept, so we'd have another EV, just not a German one.
I have no positive experiences with VW unfortunately and the service is just bad. I made an appointment last year for a high-voltage battery check. This appointment was therefore rescheduled to the day the warranty expired and without my knowledge an update 3.2 was performed. I can no longer drive my car, it has been at the dealer for 2 months. I cannot view the digital service booklet (no one can "company policy") and I will not receive alternative transportation.Folkramfer wrote: ↑Tue Jun 04, 2024 6:30 pm Call me cynical but is it a coincidence that the two id3's get called for a 3.2 update just before warranty expires? then the problems happen a couple of weeks out of warranty.

A week ago, I got the error message while sitting in the car as it was charging. It then came up every time I got in the car for a couple of days, then disappeared.
Whatever it is that causes this message to appear without reason, it means I am less likely to believe any other error message (and I've had a couple of other fake error messages too). The workshop have never found any problem which would have caused those messages (despite alleging that the car logs all faults), and my recurring door-unlock-sensor fault never produced an error message, so was regarded as probably my imagination for a long time.
As with any substantial software package, it's almost inevitable that there will be bugs and errors. But when these appear in the error reporting area of the package it's a bit worrying!

If you just had the error message several times, on what basis do you think it is doing so without reason?TimF wrote: ↑Fri Jun 14, 2024 8:50 am A week ago, I got the error message while sitting in the car as it was charging. Had the car tested and they confirm that it is a battery fault however they don't specialise in batteries so we have to wait for a specialist dealer to contact us. The good news is that we don't have to pay the £140+ for the testing as the battery has an 8 yr warranty.
Doesn't instill confidence in the future for this car.
