Hello,

Do any of the updates since 3.2 require a workshop visit or can they all be done OTA?

Thanks. :)

I recently asked about further updates and nothing was forthcoming. I think 3.2 is it.

Thanks.

I read on here that some cars have 3.2 (upgradable OTA to 3.2.1) and some cars have 3.5 (upgradable OTA to 3.7). Is it only later cars that can have 3.5?

i think3.2.1 is to allow for later updates, you are correct that 3.5/3.7 is for newer cars only currently.

3.7 is supposed to be available ota soon but there is no sign yet. It has started to be installed at the workshop instead of 3.2 now for people who are late updating from earlier versions.

I have a id3 from 2020, and I have received a 3.7 upgrade at Lookers VW Blackpool in response to my constant problems. I now started to document them with videos on a youtube channel (https://www.youtube.com/@user-wd8wt1if1z) as the upgrade was not really a remedy.

You don't seem to have pressed ok to log in, which could be causing some of that. But you also probably need a new infotainment head unit. The auto increasing temperature has happened to quite a few people, usually when the unit gets hot. It's down to the unit falsely detecting presses on the touch buttons at the bottom of the screen. That same issue may well be why it is also turning off and on. (If you try pressing the button to turn the temperature down a few times, you'll likely find it eventually detects a double press and turns your seat heater on).
Problems of this severity are never solved by a software update. They don't happen without some kind of underlying fault in the car.

That looks distracting at best; dangerous at worst. :?

From your post, it sounds like you were having these issues before the update and the dealership installed the update, hoping that that would fix things. Is that right?

I'd agree with sidehaas: that looks like a faulty head unit rather than "just" dodgy software.

I just did not bother pressing ok by the time of the recording. It did not seem to make any difference. Not to mention it is quite exhaustive to press ok that many times and see the car restart nevertheless (I have an hour long video while driving where this could have been visible as well, but I thought that is not useful enough to publish).

I was thinking about the head unit as well, I even told them before the 3.7 update, that I bet there is some sensor issue in the control of the entertainment system, but they were ensuring me that they have barely seen hardware issues with id3s so this must also not be a hardware issue. I will be back at the dealership next week and will see how they think about it now that I have observed the same issues with the updated software as well.

I asked Lookers Blackpool to assess the safety of the situation and they also came to the conclusion that this is potentially dangerous but they still thought it is just a software upgrade (they even wrote this conclusion in their quote for the update after some nagging). As I wrote above, I also thought this is more of a hardware issue which I also expressed to the dealership without any effect.

Suggests the people Lookers Blackpool either know nothing about these cars or were trying to get rid of you, unfortunately.

No, unfortunately not yet. For me, this is a very frustrating and long process, by now I am on this journey for more than a year (that's why I have several videos even though the issue is intermittent). I have had the car with 3 dealerships to date who have all considered the car to be perfectly ok (or in case there was a new software update available, they might say the problems will be fixed with a new software update - just like with the 3.7 one in Blackpool). Early july, I involved Volkswagen UK's customer services. After that, the Blackpool service reached out to Germany and concluded that a replacement "Display J685" might fix it. I am still waiting for it to be done though (hopefully I will have some news about this later this week). Given their record, so far I don't know if this actually will fix it as it sounds like they are just guessing. I am still hopeful as @sidehaas above also wrote that an infotainment head unit replacement could solve this (assuming that it is the same as this J685 stuff that the dealership wrote about).
