The small update (not tiny as it corrects errors and adds some small functionality) is the precursor to the large one as it also updates the update service

It seems that after a successful test VW wants to role this out to all ID3s now. After it has been done in most cars and settled down they will then do the larger one.

It is logical there is a gap between them

The 2 updates that have pushed out over the last week only add functionality related to installing updates, plus a tweak to the digital manual.

Neither of them have been “part” of the 2.3 update as such.

I did get an amusing error though today after the tiny update, on a piece of road near my house I've been on many times. I set ACC there as it changes frequently from 30 to 40 to 60, back to 30 etc I went into the 40 from the 30, it though the speed limit was 110mph! Cannot be a coincidence that I did the update today and then now I'm getting this.

Many have reported a nav database update today to 21.7, mine got it too, that might explain this behaviour.

Interesting our nav db is at 21.7 this morning (was 21.5), wasn’t aware of any notifications and nothing else seems to have been updated though

The satnav database updates in the background, without fuss or notification.

Got the mini update others spoke of last week yesterday. Nav still at 21.5 though today.

Mine is doing the 2nd of the 2 updates as I type this. I've got everything crossed that it works ok and doesn't turn my car into a very expensive brick!

2 and a half hours left to go.....

I had volunteered to receive 2.3 early.

Part 1 downloaded on Monday evening and installed on Tuesday morning, part 2 downloaded on Tuesday evening (the next time I used the car) and installed on Wednesday morning - all working fine and I like the tweaks they've made to the infotainment system.

You now scroll left/right to move between the pages of icons (rather than up/down), and can easily toggle between seeing the 2 pages of icons and the 2 pages of shortcuts by pressing the home button on the right of the screen, the button itself switches between the square and a set of small icon squares when you toggle between the icon pages and the shortcut pages, making it more like Apple CarPlay. You can also set the home button to be a VW logo or a country flag - that's a gimmick to be honest!

There are new uses of the ID. light but I've not seen any of them yet, and new highlights for when the car is reading roadsigns.

Any intel on the wider rollout beyond first movers?

I am hoping to be proved wrong, but having to apply two separate updates totalling several hours just for a few tweaks to the infotainment system and a bit more use made of the ID light sounds pretty underwhelming to me. Or am I missing something?

That’s all the release notes mention.

There may be some bug fixes, performance is definitely better - startup time plus general responsiveness.

Yes you are missing a lot
This release is actually about performance, fixes and infrastructure enhancements
And most importantly, it shows the correct alloys you bought on the picture ;)

Thanks for the replies. I have seen others mention improved performance of the infotainment system and that will be welcome if correct.
Does anyone have any info. on what the 'infrastructure enhancements' are?
Or the bugs that are fixed? Have they changed the on/off button for climate control to be consistent with the rest of the system for example?
( I haven't had the 2.3 update but the 'Internet radio unavailable' message seems to have stopped appearing every day by the way - pleased about that!)
I have some experience in software development and updates that take several hours to apply typically are only required for major changes which 2.3 doesn't really seem to entail. I'll be honest it does make me worry a little about the quality of the underlying software design and efficiency.

It's very clear now to me whether the climate is on or off - when you turn it off the button turns white (unlike anything else on the screen at the the time, so it stands out) and the temperatures at the bottom say OFF (in a larger and bolder text than I remember)

There is no log of bug fixes that I'm aware of, I've read that the location-based charging is unchanged but I don't use it anyway.

Has anyone had the 2.3 update in the UK yet and does it work ok. Still waiting for mine.

Yes I have, and yes it does.

It’s only been pushed to those who volunteered to receive it early, still not generally available.

Startup and responsiveness are improved, you can toggle easily between the 2 pages of widgets and the 2 pages of icons, some of the pages/screens have been updated, and the ID. Light does a few new things.

I am curious, I only got my ID3 a couple of months ago and I have had the car say there is an update a couple of times but I have been unable to download it due to strangely needing to use the car when it comes up and says to leave the car until it is complete so I have had to ignore it. Is there a way of doing the update manually without waiting for it to pop up on the screen?

Did you check System Information and Updates to see if it's lurking there?
