Scheduled charging with Pod Point

As a relatively new user of the Pod Point Solo I’m having a bit of a faff when scheduling charges for the 00:30-04:30 Octopus Go slot via the Pod Point app.

I’ve unchecked departure time/location stuff in the car, so the variables ought to be how I’m using the app and physically connecting the charger and car I think.

I’ve worked out that with the PP app a schedule has to be active for the current day (even if it’s in the past that day) so that you can schedule for the next day’s early hours otherwise it will start charging when you plug in.

I’ve set the schedule first before plugging in so that the PP light goes green. However, did all this the other night, happened to wake up at 01:30, charge hadn’t started. Went out, plugged in and out, set the charge for the next half hour slot, it started and went to 80% fine.

First time I did this I’m sure I did it the same way as above and it worked as expected, but this second time not, the car’s red light came on as well.

Wondering if anybody has any tips on how to make this reliable beyond what I’m doing or if it isn’t quite there and is glitchy for no apparent reason?

The easiest mistake is to forget to "save" after pressing "schedule active" button

I have a simular issue,
If you set a schedule using PP app and then plug in the car you would think everything would be OK but if the PP is in schedule mode and you plug the car in it doesn't seem to handshake or link to the car after about 1-2 minutes the cars charger port goes RED and shows charge fault.
If you plug the car in first it starts to charging immediately and then turn on the PP schedule the charging stops and then works as it should on the PP schedule.
I have contacted both Pod Point and VW and they seem to blame each other but neither want to take responsibility for it not working.

I have mine set to 20:30-01:30 in the PP app every day (to match my Go Faster off-peak period) and just plug it in on the nights when I need to charge, it just works for me.

Mine doesn't work if do that, If I have a scheduled charge set before plugging in the car it always shows a charge fault. Crazy.

Thanks, I’ll try the scott28tt method, but use the idmania3 workaround if it fails.

Interesting you can have a Go Faster period outside the early hours, didn’t realise that, is that at 5.5p?

Also, on the nights you charge, are you plugging in before the scheduled time is set to start?

Seems my car behaves same way as idmania3’s does, at least I know how to make it work so thanks for that. Wonder if that’s something that will change with the 2.3 update.

Use the PP timer every day and works well

The light on the pp should be yellow to show timed charge selected

I did have a problem just after the timing went live and called out engineer (bit if a faff) he changed the whole board as he said there are a few out there that don’t support the timed charging

I would report to pod point and see if they can check remotely snd then an engineer (eventually they comd out!)

Ah, interesting, so just to be sure, normally the PP light is blue, if there’s an active schedule, but it’s not charging it should be yellow, once changing it should be green?

I never see a yellow light, could be a clue mine needs sorting?

That’s mostly why I switched to Go Faster, you can pick a start time as early as 20:30, and yes I opted for 5 hours at 5.5p.

And yes, I plug in before the timer period, I’ve never checked the colour of any lights as it’s just worked so haven’t paid any attention.

Answered my own questions via rtfm, logged it with PP support

Weirdly I've never had this issue before, I have a charge scheduled for 10pm tonight, keeps going red.

But I thought if the light is red on the car it won't start charging?

I also tried this yesterday
.when the charging port turns RED the cable is unlocked and can be removed.
It did start a charge though but don't like the idea of the cable not being locked into the car.

We get red light on occasions but seems to charge ok at the scheduled time

Only time I am really concerned now is when we get red light on the PP
