Locked myself out
I accidentally locked my key in the boot today. Does anyone know if there is a way of avoiding this, apart from not being so stupid.
I returned to my locked car, opened the boot, put my bag containing the key in the boot and closed the boot. Everything was locked and I couldn't get in.
Fortunately I was at my friend's house and he was able to run me home to get the spare key.
I know that some cars have systems that prevent you from locking your key inside. Is there a setting for this on the ID3?

Unfortunately I'm still waiting for my ID.3 so I'm unable to check on the app but the lock and unlock facility falls under the "Security and Service" umbrella.
My Tiguan has this service and looking at the specs for the ID.3 it also has it.

That surprises me but there again this is VW and who can figure out their methodology?

Within the We Connect interface with the vehicle on VW's ICE vehicles you get subscriptions via the app connect.
Guide and Inform was once the basic funtion and Security and Service was a step up. When I got my Tiguan in 2018 it came with 3 years subscription of both.
The functions of Security and Service gives you details of the car via the We Connect app. Things like what the current mileage is and mpg, info to say if the lights are on, windows and doors open or shut, facility to flash the hazards or sound the horn and of course the functionality to lock or unlock the vehicle via the app.
Looking at the latest spec of the ID.3 Security and Service is a standard feature throughout the range.
Here's a screenshot of what I see of my Tiguan.

Could well be.
When I first got my Tiguan the lock and unlock facility was not an option. That came about 6 months after and needed a software update via a dealer and when you went to use the unlock/lock for the first time it took you to a video call with someone in Germany to which you had to prove who you were i.e driving licence, passport etc. This was a one of to set the app up.

Wow the Connect app was never that useful on my MY17 Tiguan.. Out of interest is this iOS or Android version?
Which AD3 do you have?majt62 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 20, 2021 2:20 pm I accidentally locked my key in the boot today. Does anyone know if there is a way of avoiding this, apart from not being so stupid.

Just out of interest, I just tried to lock my keys in the boot of my 6 year old Fiesta. It wouldn’t let me. The boot wouldn’t even close properly.majt62 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 20, 2021 2:20 pm I accidentally locked my key in the boot today. This seems like pretty shoddy design by VW. I thought (deiselgate aside) that VW knew a thing or two about engineering. I hope I am not going to regret buying this ID3.
