Saw an article last week in the Irish times (new car buyers in the slow lane), about someone in cork who ordered a Audi q4,last October was told February delivery in December that was put back to July ,then in March was told he wouldn’t get this year and they would have to cancel his order and not offering anything else so it’s not just here in the uk.
I haven’t chased for a while was going to wait till factory has been back up and running. Im a cash buyer so I can wait it must be difficult if you’re have a lease or pcp there a whole raft of cars at the £40,000 price mark now and I can’t afford any of them so I will have to sit and wait and see what happens
Just wondering if anybody was going to go to the fully charged show live at farnborough at the end of April would expect VW to be there if so could you give them a ear bashing find out what’s going on without giving a politicians answer

Hi, quick update on my order, if you are wondering where I disappeared. I have no build update to date! Dealer in fact apologised and shared a letter from VW expressing concerns on delivery as there will be further delays due to the crisis in Ukraine. The dealer also told me that there will be no build updates till the car is completely built. So basically they asked me not to chase them for updates and go back to sleep! Last week I received a letter from VW apologising about the same thing. For those who are waiting on their order, did you experience similar behaviour?

I'm assuming everyone waiting has or will get the letter. In terms of updates they likely could check the system but given the accuracy of what it tells them they may have decided not to pass on anything till the cars built as even then you have a 1-2 month wait.

Does anybody know the exact official Department of Transport position concerning the continuing eligibility of the plug-in car grant for vehicles facing long delivery delays.

My dealer seems to think it will be fine. The government website (and their official pdf document) appears to suggest the grant ceases to apply after 9 months from ordering, unless the vehicle is delivered, awaiting payment or awaiting audit.

I cannot find any explanation of the term ‘awaiting audit’.

If anybody has a definitive answer it would be greatly appreciated, as if the grant is not going to be available when I take delivery - which is now very likely next year - I shall need to look at alternatives.

ImageToday seems like a good day to repurpose the PP as it's done nothing as yet and won't be seeing any action for a number of months and months and.......
Well at least it's cheap to run!

I really think you need to look at your contract with VW, not what the Government says. Your contract should be clear about the agreed price and should identify any exceptions (eg the price may be subject to change if xyz happens.) It is VW's business to reclaim the grant, not yours, and if they can't do so for a big group of buyers then they will have to take that hit unless there is something in your contract that suggests otherwise. If your dealer is confident and your contract looks ok I personally wouldn't worry about it.

Not definitive. My opinion.
I'm in the same position as you. My dealership seems confident that the "brand" and or the Gov will honour the grant.
I think if the Gov budgeted for the grant, despite the delays, there is an argument to extend the claim period to fit the deliveries of those vehicles affected by long delays.
Because the grant was cut to £1,500 and only on vehicles less than £32,000 there may be a proposal to allow claiming £1,500 for the expired grants with the balance being passed onto the dealership and customer. Either way I don't believe customers in our position will have to find £2,500 extra but we may be asked to pay something?

Just had an update on my build week. Had been sitting at ww24 for quite some time. It has now jumped to ww39; a slippage of 15 weeks. My VW dealer blames the war in Ukraine. Lack of wheat to make bread to feed the Wolfburg workers perhaps???
Is everyone else seeing similar slippages? I am beginning to believe I will never get this car. Given the wait times I think VW ought to rebrand it as Trabant.

The wiring looms and some other parts are made in the west of Ukraine. Also some metals were mined in Russia.
