daern wrote: Thu Jan 27, 2022 2:13 pm Hi all - new to the forum, so hello, but might only be a brief visit!

Had an ID.3 Family Pro on preorder through our friends at Octopus, with estimated delivery of "Q3 2022". Having read the stories on this thread, I now have grave doubts as to how realistic these timescales are, given others with similar ETAs reporting significant slippages with no real information on when their cars might finally arrive.

Sadly, despite really liking the car, we've swapped for a Cupra Born V2...which is pretty much the same thing anyway, apart from a few spec details and the higher output motor that we originally wanted anyway! Obviously, no ETAs on those either right now but hoping to get in on the first wave which is supposedly due in Q2 22, hopefully before all of the bits that Seat pilfered from the VW line get returned to ID.3 production and Cupra Born production goes the same way as ID.3 production is right now.

Wish you all the very best and hope that you all get your cars soon. We loved the ID.3 when we drove it and would be more than happy to have had one, but the current mess with deliveries isn't acceptable from a major manufacturer and you are all exceptional patient in your handling of the situation. Best of luck, and I'll keep an eye out here to see if I might the right call or not in jumping ship :-)
Welcome! I didn't realise the Born was available for order yet? Can I ask where you managed to do this?

I'm in a similar situation to you to be honest, I love the look of the Born but I fear I may be stepping out of the fire and into the frying pan and ending up with an even longer wait than I currently face.

I *think* I'm on a waiting list before it goes onto the order book, which hasn't actually opened yet (although it's probably imminent). It's very hard to tell, but I should find out more in the coming weeks...! It's all handled through Octopus, so I'm one step removed from the process. That said, I've been told I'm the first Cupra Born order on their books :-)

Still not 100% sure I've made the right call here, but quite excited about the idea of taking delivery of a car that I've never even seen in the flesh! Even things like trim levels aren't 100% clear, but we think we have enough detail to move forward. As far as I can tell, the only real downgrade is the loss of the self-dimming matrix lights from the ID.3, which have become self-dimming regular LED lights. A shame, that, as it's a great feature, but the addition of the HUD does compensate to some extent.

Seems like VW has opened up ordering for the ID.5 (at least so their website states). Can configure one on the website now. Wonder if an influx of ID.5 orders will affect us all...

Not wishing to put a dampener on Cupra Born/ID5 excitement or any other excitement but, I read this week that VW has a backlog of 95,000 BEV orders and over 540,000 vehicles of all types, so far! Its the biggest order backlog they have ever had...

order backlog in Europe at an all-time high of 543,000 vehicles, including 95,000 orders for all-electric IDs
As Zwickau (according to fully charged) can do 330,000 cars a year, and only builds electric cars, that actually makes the backlog only 4 months...

Crikey the ID.5 I just configured is nearly £60k. In fact I think that merits a double crikey and a bit of a sit down. Crikey.

Can do is the operative phrase. I highly doubt they are currently doing 330,000 a year.

Agreed, just to quote precisely, 330,000 at peak; have done 1,250 per day.
330 000 that's the number of cars that this facility will produce annually when it's running at its peak yesterday they hit a daily production record in the meb era 1250 cars in one day

Haha! Imagine what the ID Buzz will cost. That’ll probably be a CPR crikey.

Yes, I have to say, even with strong discounting I can’t see who is going to buy the ID.5. It just doesn’t make much sense.

I agree - I thought that maybe the base model would start at 40-43k, which I would see as a "fair" price. Starting at 50.5k... nuts, in my opinion!

Update from dealer today, now bumped from week 15 to week 20, but the build weeks seem VERY fluid right now and this feels like it's going to be the tip of the iceberg.

Only 4 months assuming they are working at full production and everything is normal. I suspect it is nothing near that otherwise why the 15 month wait for some models? So a 95,000 European backlog of BEVs right now, plus new models being added, plus production is running at a much reduced rate...

Priced so no one actually orders it as they won't be able to meet orders if it's cheaper.

And to try to position VW more upmarket and more premium than Skoda, and justify the Audi pricing.

I am having trouble positioning VW as a £60k car brand. Yes I know there’s the Toerag but honestly who buys a Toerag when you can get a discounted Q7.

World’s gone bonkers.
