It surprising how easy it is to adapt.. Unfortunately my son has started learning to drive so I am now also jumping in and out of a 1.2 Clio.. What's with all these buttons, pedals and levers it's bewildering???

I was greeted with this today...

So looks like I should get the big update next week.

I made the mistake of starting the install whilst waiting for the kids to finish their football tonight. Stupid me believed the message stating it would take 60 minutes! I returned to the car after just over an hour... Still updating! Luckily, by the time I'd walked to the shop and back for tonight's liquid refreshments, it'd finally finished!

I was a bit surprised to see the second update arrive so quickly after the first!

So having learnt from my mistake of trusting VW's estimate of timings, when the second update arrived this morning on my way to football, I waited until I got home to start the install.

The screen said it would take 170 minutes, but I'm pretty sure that it was around about 2 hours!... And my ID.3 decided to play the radio to itself throughout!

So finally on 2.3...

Id say that it was a bit laggy at first, but hopefully that's as it's just finished installing.

What does it look like when it is updating? Can you tell when it updates? I think our car has done something as the warning lights came on while driving this morning and then There was a message about an update that I pressed to confirm on the screen. However, there doesn't appear to be anything else happening.

I can't remember, but it does give you some instructions for the first part, which are to turn off the sidelights, and it will start when the car is locked.

Once it's done, the warning lights disappear.

You can go in to the system settings and there's somewhere in the menus that you can look for updates, but off the top of my head I can't remember exactly how to get to it.

The big update had a message appear whilst I was out, so I made sure I didn't tap anything on the screen, as I didn't want to be stuck for 3-4 hours whilst it was updating. When I started the car again and then drove home, the prompt to start the update was back, so I did it at home, and to be honest it only seemed like it took around 2 hours to do it.

Economy - averaging 3.9 m/kWh, and that's short stop start journeys, and not trying to take it easy.

Drive - comfortable and relaxed, rather than sporty, but I think they've got the suspension set up well. The Pro is quick enough for me, although the extra power of the Pro performance would be nice, I think I'd use it a bit too much, and probably go through tires too quick.

Driver aids - I know people generally complain about them, and I do agree on the LKA often tugging back towards parked cars when you move out, but I really like the brake assist slowing when you come up to junctions or traffic!

Charge timer - I have an old 'dumb' Podpoint solo, and just on a regular tariff, so use the car timer for charges, although probably no need as I'm only charging to 80%. Had a failed charge twice, and, for me, it seems to be when I have 2 different charge times set for the same location, i.e. Mon-Fri 7.45am, and Sat-Sun 9am. When I've just had one timed charge active it seems to work fine. Could be coincidence, but I'll keep an eye on it.

Hello iD - pleased with the voice recognition, seems to work well when using the hands free, or setting sat nav destinations.

Parking - great turning circle and the front and rear sensors work well, I thought I'd really miss the all round camera from my old Leaf, but I'm finding I'm not really. Just got to get used to the front being so short!

Heated seats and wheel - the seats get plenty hot, and the steering wheel... not so much, hopefully it'll be more noticeable in a few weeks.

Android auto - still to get it up and running, but I think it's an issue with my Hauwei phone, and not the car, so will just have to wait until I get a new one.

Central locking/start - the whole getting in and driving off, then stopping and getting out without having to do anything, took a lot less time to get used to than I thought, however... I do miss being able to touch a button on the door to lock and unlock, rather than find the key and search for the button. First World problem, but something I miss from the ol' Leaf.
Oh yes, I also miss having a touch button on the door handle to unlock the car. If that is the worst thing about the ID3, then all is well.

So, first negative that's occurred during ownership... a new set of speed bumps put in on a route I don't often travel, at night, I might not have slowed enough and the front drivers side suspension, I'm pretty certain, hit the bump stops 😥.

I'm hoping that nothings bent/buckled/damaged, but at the minute I'm driving around thinking, 'I'm sure that it's not driving as smooth as it was', 'is that a bit of vibration I can feel'.... I'm hoping it's psychological, no knocking or banging, so fingers crossed it's all in my head...

Really disappointed with the OEM Bridgestones!

I parked up on the drive this morning, following a little bit of snow. Went back to the car after about 10 minutes, to put a couple of bags in the boot, went to open the boot and the iD.3 slid forward a few inches and bumped against our other car!

There's a slight slope on the drive, but never had an issue like than before in the 10 years of living there! The only thing I can put it down to is the tyres, which I've heard bad things about, but never really thought there was an issue.

Couldn't back up, as the car was sliding side ways, so had to put the snow socks on, having cleared some snow away.

So now on the lookout for some new tyres!

Suspect this has to do with the fact that you are expecting summer tyres to perform in sub 7 degrees C winter conditions and specifically snow and ice. Not surprised the car might have slid if you have an icy, sloping drive and a heavy car. Not surprised you couldn't reverse up either as electric car pumps a lot of instant torque into the drive wheels. Solution is probably all season or winter tyres depending on where you live. This guy lives in Sweden but you can see the traction control works pretty well on ice with the correct rubber:

It’s those bloody Bridgestones - they’re a hazard under normal conditions but put them on snow or ice and you’re a danger to yourself and all around you.

I know where you're coming from, but with the Leaf I changed from to the iD.3, there was never a problem, that only had summer tyres on, same drive, same temps (in fact, had much worse).

It has to be the OEM Bridgestone tyres.

I think even changing for a different brand summer tyre there'd be a marked improvement.

However, I'm going to see about some all season tyres if I can get them.

I've had Bridgestones on 5 previous new VWs and they've been really poor in all areas. Their compound is so hard, they perform in the Summerlike decent Summer tyres do at about 2C. In the Winter they're woeful for grip, traction, feel and noise. I'm sureBridgestones must do the vast majority of its business supplying car factories, as you'd have to be mad buying these with your own money when the originals wear out.

I've never felt uncomfortable.in Winter with anything by Michelin, Goodyear, Pirelli Continental, Dunlop etc, but I'm always on my guard with Bridgestones.

So, parked up tonight after work on the drive, my other half wants the car in the morning for work instead of hers, so go to swap them round, as she's got a 5.30 start, and my ID.3 lights up a load of error messages and won't engage drive or reverse!

No amount of resets or unlocking and locking did anything, so locked it and went away for an hour, came back and... its decided to put its toys back in the pram and flipping work!

A bit annoying, but hopefully a one off.

Just been out to check the charging on the car, as we're doing a 200 mile round trip tomorrow, no problem with the charging, all set fine and started... but, what's that... a thin black line on the windscreen...

On further investigation it seems as if the stone that pinged off the car on Saturday morning in the high winds, did in fact chip it and cause it to crack! :x

So now I've got to get it booked in to get it replaced (not a chance its repairable, looks to be about a foot in length) and we'll be taking the ICE to Leeds

Don't forget that unless you get your windscreen replaced by a main dealer (which most insurers charge a large excess for) you'll probably also need to book a separate ADAS calibration session at a main dealer as well as the windscreen replacement, which can be a real faff if the windscreen replacers tell you on the day they can't calibrate the ADAS, despite them previously telling you they could...

“Advanced Driver Assistance Systems”, basically the systems powered by camera/s hiding behind your windscreen.

Windscreen replacement can futz with their calibration.
