Has anyone ever managed to beat DriveTheDeal (DTD) prices (except when the government grant changed)?

If not, how close to DTD did they manage to get local dealers to quote?

Is it the case that DTD are the lowest prices realistically available in the UK and it is a waste of time trying to beat it?

Is it true DTD suppliers will not provide a better quote direct (if you happen to accidentally stumble across their "secret" supplier)?

Most 58kw cars are now factory orders, so will dealers provide deals for transactions - quote, order, pay and collect?

A common approach seems to be to get a DTD quote then contact dealers in your area asking them to match/beat it.

Have you tried that already?

How you’re paying for the car will have an influence.

Yes, frequently, but you'll often need to put in some legwork to beat it, and it's often not beatable by very much. I tend to view the DTD price as the best price you're likely to get for filling in a form on the Internet.

It varies, I know of people who have had 3-4% off the DTD price and I've seen claims from other folks on forums of 6-8%. I tend to take the latter with a pinch of salt though.

I wouldn't have said that they were the lowest prices realistically available in the UK. I would have said that they were giving realistically low prices without any haggling on your own part.

How would anyone know ? :-)

If you mean "will dealers take orders for factory orders based on DTD prices" then as far as I'm aware the answer is yes.

I got a quote from CarWow which was very similar to the DTD price. I used it as the starting point and although I modified the spec we agreed a price which maintained the same percentage discount. Add to that both the grant and the PCP deposit contribution I was very pleased with 19% off list price.

I do not like the way DTD ad CarWow make a false savings headlines by including £2,500 government grant.
If DTD or CarWow provided zero discount then they will still claim a £2,500 or x% discount. We all get the government grant!
This claimed saving should be outlawed.

Any claimed savings should not include the Government discount or the £1750 VW contribution for finance, which can be cancelled within 14 days.
I calculate savings without these.

DTD true savings appear between 7 to 7.5% off. Do dealers operate on 10% + bonuses?

DTD is as follows:

New factory order LIfe Pro Family Pro
ID.3 145PS 58KW £30,935 £33,735
Add Metallic Paint £ 645 £ 645
East Derry Alloys £ 650 £ 650

RRP of specifica' £ 32,230 £35,030

Government Grant -£ 2,500 -£2,500

Real "Cash Price" £29,730 £32,530

VW Finance Cont'' -£ 1, 750 -£ 1, 750

Effective Car Cost £27,980 £30,780

DriveTheDeal Cost £ 25,700.94 £28,170.85

DTD Real Discount £2,279.06 £2,609.05
DTD % Discount 7.07% 7.45%

I use the RRP without government grants and finance contribution to work out the real discount rate.

Has anyone been able to change the trim after placing an order with DTD? Or do you have to cancel your order and start again?
