It's open to Facebook users. I will never reactivate my old Facebook account. Plus does anyone under 40 actually know what Facebook is these days ? :-)

Yes; it’s the biggest spyware package out there. Although Google is close.

I'm also someone that will never go back on FB. I reluctantly still use WhatsApp as owned by them. As rightly said Google is just as bad but using Android you have to put up with them.
I'm whatever is on the FB group will migrate here and vice versa.

I doubt it will move over to here. I moved to Signal when Facebook bought WatsApp. I’m Apple so use Apple Maps and DuckDuckGo for search engine, use their app. It’s a lot better as a search engine now than it used to be.

I worded that wrongly. What I meant whatever is posted on the FB group will find its way on here.
And as for Apple. Don't get me going on them 🤣🤣

Ah, yes. Hope so too. Find them the lesser of 2 evils. Started years ago with an iMac, gave up on Windows 7, and migrated to iPhone shortly after.

With Apple you're the customer they sell their products to. With Google (and Facebook etc) you're the product they're selling to their customers.

It's a simple choice.

I think in the case of all 3 you just have to understand you're none of the above, you are a revenue resource to be exploited at all opportunities.

Obviously, they're all businesses, and that's what businesses do. You get a vote in how they exploit you though. Encouraging Facebook and Google's approach isn't the vote I personally make.

I disagree. I wasn't a 1st Edition owner, so that group held nothing I couldn't get elsewhere. Now it does potentially have something I can't get elsewhere - early access to updates once my ID.3 arrives - but that comes at the price of Facebook's nonsense.

All VW would have to do would be to add an option to opt-in to early access software as part of the VW account on their own website. They chose, instead, to force people to use Facebook.

I'm not playing :-)

Who says they'll offer early software updates to the members of the group now they've opened it up?

I am a 1st Edition owner, but wasn't a First Mover.

If you don't want to join, that's your choice.

Crikey, I only posted this as news, trying to do folks a favour who hadn't heard about it, I didn't expect it to turn into such a debate about Facebook privacy etc.

Heh, I read the article last night and now I'd better re-read it in case I misunderstood :-) (impression was that First Mover Club was now available to anybody, not just 1st Edition owners. But you had to sign up through Facebook which I'm allergic to)

The allergic reaction caused me to stray off-topic, apologies :-)

"VIN fallout" ? :-)

What could possibly go wrong with sharing your VIN via Facebook ?

Damn, I did it again. Sorry OP.....
