Not so fun fact, the YouTubers might not be right.

Have a look at this manual: https://vwts.ru/vw/id3/vw-id3-maintenance-eng.pdf

And even that might not be right as if you check the online manual and scroll to the very end.. The different motors are listed and they have different Max Torque figures.. The EBJC is rated at 275Nm not 310Nm. I suppose that could all still be smoke and mirrors and the motors are the same but from a personal POV I will be a little upset if it becomes an option to 'Upgrade' to the higher power through a cheaper back door route and I could see VW on the end of yet another legal challenge.

I meant the 110kW versus the 150kW...

If this is just a software difference, it's pretty difficult to justify £1200 difference. VW don't undersell and oversupply. Finding it really hard to believe that VW would stick a more capable motor in than it needs to if there's a cheaper one that would do the job.

Either way, VW almost certainly wouldn't sell you a 145/150ps Pro and then allow you to upgrade to Pro Performance for £600, they would kill Pro Performance sales.

If you want a Pro Performance then you'll need to buy a Pro Performance. It would be a faff with insurance too as you'd effectively be getting an official remap.

Seems you can say anything on YouTube and be believed.

Though… Tesla already do this - and it’s a way for VW to get ££ direct to them. No slice to the dealers or possibly even tax (if done right!).

Tesla are still small enough (volumes) to source a "one size fits all" motor. VAG aren't in the habit of this approach for any of their cars. Seriously doubt the motors are identical across the range.

Agree zero chance VW will offer over the air updates. Not the way the company work, they are in recovery from the diesel issues.

We opted for the 145 admittedly out of my ignorance in not realising the gov grant would have also been available on the 200 even after options. Dealer did try to upsell to us but I skipped him on not realising what he was saying.

Who knows when we will get it though, ordered at the end of June.

You can find an amazing amount of detail in your "My Volkswagen" page. Extracting my electric motor details I get

Electric motor unit 0EH.A
Electric motor, total system output 150 kW base motor is N06/N07
Torque 310 Nm Base motor is N06/N07/N10

So I doubt it will be as simple as a software update, though I could see after market motor upgrades being a thing using salvaged parts, but why bother?
