Hi All,
Ahead of receiving my ID.3 early next year I am researching chargers etc.
I have sorted a 7kWh home charger but was wondering whether to get a so called "Granny Charger" for emergencies or when visiting the in-laws for weekends.
So, which Granny Chargers come recommended and work OK for the ID.3 for the odd charge now and again ?
Thanks Guy's.
Which Granny Charger do you use ?
I’ve got an Ohme granny charger, mostly because it was drastically discounted to Octopus customers and gives me maximum flexibility to schedule a charge or use it as a dumb charger at my discretion.

“Emergencies” = public rapid chargers
I haven’t bothered buying a granny lead, I don’t even take my Type 2 lead with me in the car when on long journeys.

I'm the opposite end of things to Scott. My main source of charging over 10 months has been the VW Granny. I am in the process of getting a home charger ( if Pod Point ever get back to me) mainly for future proofing a change in circumstances requiring me to do more miles than my current 5K-6K a year. Its not proving difficult to keep my car between 20% and 80% using Octopus Go in the 4 hour midnight tariff with the granny.
I'm very pleased with it and it was included in the deal on my car.

I do as Scott does. I charge at home all the time, except when I'm on a journey beyond the range of the car, then I'll use rapid chargers when on the move. On the last leg of a long journey, I'll charge enough to get me home on the indicated range +50 miles.

I’d also rather not run the equivalent of a kettle through my regular house electrics for hours on end night after night.
Legally (electrically) speaking there should be a separate breaker for a 3 pin electrical socket (marked up as an EV socket) and safety electrician checks to boot. You can also now buy exterior sockets with their own breakers specifically for this purpose, but they should be professionally fitted and checked to ensure that the 10A continuous load isn't stressing the rest of your electrical system
