Hi,
I've just ordered a new Max Pro Performance from a leasing company (Autorama) on a 3 year lease.

One of the options is a maintenance plan that covers servicing and breakdown cover at £28 per month. However, from what I can gleam from this forum and the VW website, the vehicle comes with a 3 year VW warranty that includes breakdown cover (UK & Europe). Also, I'll only be due 1 service before the end of the contract at £170.

Am I correct in all this? If so, it doesn't seem worth paying for the leasing company's maintenance plan.

Yes, 3 year breakdown on all ID3s. No-one has had an official IDE service yet as it is due at 2 years old and the dealerships/VW don't currently seem to know scope of works or price for the service. Given how little work is anticipated (maybe a new cabin pollen filter, battery health checks and visual inspection of the drive train/car underside for damage) anything over £200 is going to be hard to justify.

With our order we decided to take up the three year service plan offered by VW. It might not work out the best value but we decided to do it just for peace of mind, given it's a new car etc. The (one-off) cost was between £200 and £300 I think, covering the first two services at years 2 and 3. So, £28 pm for three years seems extortionate. That's a total of over £1000.

If the service intervals (or inspections) are at 2 years or 20000 miles, won't there only be one inspection due during your three years?

Our dealer told us the services are at years 2,3,5,6,8,9 etc - ie two in a row then skip a year, from year 2 onwards. I trusted them as a large dealer with quite a few ID cars in stock at the time but can't say I have any more info than that. The plan definitely covers two services anyway.

(Edit, sorry, I've realised what the OP was referring to might be more than this actually, if it also includes, eg, tyre replacement under 'maintenance'.)

I think you need to understand what is covered under this maintenance plan.
It will probably cover other consumable items that you would normally have to pay for. For example, brake pads and discs, tyres, windscreen wipers etc. These are all items that would outside of the standard service package but would be covered under a maintenance plan.

The ID3 is on a fixed service interval of 2 years unlimited mileage. At 2 years they change the brake fluid, the pollen filter and carry out a bunch of inspections. At 3 years you need a MOT and then another 2 year service at 4,6, 8 etc. The reason it is not a variable mileage plan is that the only thing VW are concerned about in the 2 year schedule is brake pad/lining wear and they have electronic indicators so if they go off indicating excessive brake wear then they need to be changed or checked inside the 2 year service plans.

So any fixed service plan or a £28 monthly fee are not required.

For every other VW/Audi I have ever owned from new (15!) The brake fluid change is at year 3 and every 2 years thereafter, I expect the ID3 to be the same. For me, that 3 year service plan is probably going to be a service at 2 years old (cabin pollen filter change kick the tyres and "checks"), then back in at year 3 for that brake fluid change and a pre-MOT cursory look-see. Definitely not more than £300 all in at retail rates.

Brake pad/disc wear shouldn't be a concern for at least 5 years - unless you drive like a total clown, regen will be doing 3/4 of your braking for you, without using the pads at all.

Yes, that's sounds consistent with what the dealer told me. I'm pretty sure we were charged £270 for the years 2 and 3 activities together. I guess if each if those two different types of 'services' is due every two years after the initial one, then that would lead to the schedule I was advised of.

Well the ID3 is on a 2 year fixed service interval, so you can ignore the request to visit the dealer when it pops up in the console and change your own brake fluid at 3 years. And yes Brake pad wear should not be an issue which is why the ID3 is 2 years and unlimited mileage, however the brake wear indicators will alert anyone who is heavy on the brakes within the 2 year service intervals.

It's all in this doc.

I take your point. However, over the life of the 3 year lease, the maintenance plan will cost around £1,000 mark and I'm guessing a total mileage of no more than 30,000 miles. I'm gambling that the consumables will be a lot less than that.

Ah, our situations are a little different then. I cover at least double your miles so go tyres etc a bit quicker.
Certainly sounds very expensive then.
