Cost of a refill - recharge
I am wondering whether I have worked this out correctly? If I ever managed to buy an ID3, the battery is 58kwh and does (yes, right!) 264 miles. Charging it completely at 16p per 1kwh would cost £9.28-ish. The distance is equivalent to about half a tank of petrol. On my current Ford Focus a half tank-full of petrol would cover about 250 - 260 miles and cost about £25-30. Have I got this correct?

You won't get 264 out of a full charge, that is the theoretical range in ideal conditions, it'll be more like 80% of that

At that electricity price with that range estimate, yes. You should probably take 20% of the range for a reasonable average? Some people pay cheaper leccy rates (5p/kWh) by getting an octopus go tariff. If you are stuck on an energy tariff at the price cap because your supplier went bust (like me) your electricity might cost up to 21p per kWh. In future it could be more, the price cap changes again in April. Your petrol half tank is probably a bit cheap there though too. Half of 51 litre tank at £1.45 (average price now) is £36-37.

ID.3 Family Pro Performance (Jan 22), Makena Turquoise / East Derry alloys. Ohme Home Pro charger.
My long term average is 3.6 miles per kWh, so an average range of 208.8 miles.
I can charge off-peak at 5.5p per kWh.
So that 208.8 miles costs me £3.19, or £1.52 per 100 miles
My previous Mercedes C350 used to average 35mpg and today's average diesel price is £1.45 - that would cost £18.82 per 100 miles.
So for every 100 miles of driving my fuel costs are £17.30 lower.
If I drive 8000 miles a year, that's a fuel saving of £1384 at today's diesel prices.
Plus my VED is now over £200 less per year than it was.
I factored this in when deciding to go for a BEV.

Charging is not 100% effecient so you would need to factor in the extra energy required also.

Similarly, I'm on an Octopus GO 5p/kWh rate, paying approx £1.50 per 100 miles driving.
Had an Audi A4 Avant 40 TDI Quattro that averaged 40mpg and comes with an eye watering £475 VED bill. The missus had a Polo GTI+, also averaged about 40mpg, doing about 7k miles per year each. We both have an ID3 now.
By my calculations, at current pump prices, that's about £16.60 per 100 miles, and a fuel/VED saving of about £2750 between the 2 cars.
It's not quite that simple, as we do a few long journeys per year beyond the range of the car, so there's a bit of fast charging at 30p per kWh, about 8p per mile - still half the price per mile of the 2 previous cars.

I know if you use public rapid chargers only average 40p per kw , you are definitely worse off in cost compared to ice cars.
I have no home charger so i tend to just use my local Tesco pod point which is free and covers my range , unless i am driving much further of course. in that case i use pod points a LIDL which might be the current cheapest rapid chargers at 25p kw

You're not, sadly there are many freeloaders who treat free chargers as if they own them.
I dont think its freeloading when they are provided for free and i shop there, if they arent used then whats the point

I just don't see the point of slow chargers in locations where you're only expecting to be there an hour. 50kW chargers at supermarkets make more sense to me. I vouldn't be bothered to dig out my cable for 15-25 miles of charge.

What is the maximum range anyone has achieved for a 58kw battery in their ID.3?

Well from a 80% charge max I was getting was 202miles late summer.
Nowadays I get more like 160 miles from 80% charge.
However there are many variables that affect mileage.
How you drive.
Temperature outside
Where you drive example, motorway or town etc.
The way I treat range anxiety is just know whatever the conditions I know I will get at least 150 miles for 80% charge. That way you can plan longer journeys etc knowing what public charter you need to stop at etc
I don't recall anyone actually getting stated wltp miles

That is why the 7kw are rarely used, and why I use them my local Tesco has no parking restrictions and it's a 10min walk home so I charge it for few hours 5-6 hours when my battery is under 15% so charge to 80% . I use it early morning when the store isn't busy and the chargers are always available even at busy timesmonkeyhanger wrote: ↑Tue Nov 16, 2021 8:51 pm I just don't see the point of slow chargers in locations where you're only expecting to be there an hour. 50kW chargers at supermarkets make more sense to me. Yep, that’s freeloading.
