Update 24 November 2021: all derivatives of ID.3, ID.4 and Tiguan will be removed from the Motability scheme from Tuesday 30 November 2021 at 5pm, due to high levels of orders.
We want to give you as much notice as possible for you to close down all open enquiries, get orders onto SLI and applications on the Motability portal by the end of 30 November at 5pm..
If there's anyone thinking of waiting until 1-Dec to order their Motability ID.3, I would consider getting your order in sooner.

I have to say that, sadly, this isn't too much of a shock; the whole car industry is in a bit of turmoil and it's finally caught up with Motability. You're normally told three months before the end of the three-year lease that you can order your new car and it used to be enough time, but, in these times, that's appears to no longer be the case. This means they have to let you keep your existing car, for heaven knows how long, and by the time you swap cars instead of a 3 year old car for them to sell it's that much older and worth less. Their tried and tested business model has had a massive shake-up and the new landscape looks very different; it's just another layer of frustration, for all those who will be affected, and I don't profess to know the answer.
It REALLY makes me appreciate that I got lucky with the timings of the return date of my old car (I'd kept a Golf for 5 years because I liked it so much, but it appears that this is only works for them if there's not many people doing it), being able to place an order for a new car just as the ID.3 appeared on Motability, and having sensible delivery times - about 18 weeks from order to delivery.
Hopefully, things will get back to some sort of normal in time, after these strange/frustrating times we are going through, and I genuinely feel for all those who are having to wait a crazy amount of time (compared to how it used to be), in order to get an ID.3
Here's hoping that this current mess is sorted out sooner rather than later and I'm sure that VW and Motability will agree...

Back ib July Motability removed Golf's, Tiguan's & T Roc from the scheme.
They returned to the scheme some 8 eeeks or so later but with less choice in each of the models except the T Roc did not return due to facelift due out very soon.

Others ordering at similar times are looking at July / August 2022.

My ID.3 is through Motability, ordered July picked up December.

Dealer told me they had been removed from the list a while ago... I was lucky in my timing.

I'd always owned Golf's previously and would have gone for another had the price not been so ridiculous. They wanted £1750 for a base model golf, I was coming from a Golf R-Line which I'd previous got for £1200 or so.

Got the Tour Pro for £1349, slightly cheaper than the Max.

Didn't your dealer give you any discount on the AP?

Absolutely not, why would they? Price of cars has gone up due to low availability. They'd make more money from that car if I rejected it and they sold it to a none motability customer.

Generally speaking, advance payments are non-negotiable. Dealers sometimes offer incentives but I doubt they'd give a considerable chunk off the AP. I've had 5 or 6 cars through Motability at this point and I've never been offered a discount off the AP.

I did get the £600 payment for handing back my Golf in good condition though. I tend to factor this in when going for a new car as I have been given this bonus every time so far.

I just couldn't justify £1750 for a base model Golf. Previous years base models have been Nil AP, higher trim levels around £599-£1200.

You make it sound like getting any form of discount is a no go area. At the end of the day you are paying for the cars lease and you are a customer just like anyone else.
There are many dealers out there that will give some form of discount but many do not openly offer one.
Its a case if you don't ask you don't get.
You will get the ones that say they do not make enough money out of the car but if they are shifting quite a few cars there is room for movement.
The GCB is of course very welcoming and as you say can be factored in on your new vehicle but any further discount is a bonus.
Like I said. If you don't ask you don't get.

You will get dealers saying no and if they do go to another one
I know at one time Marshalls at South Oxford offered very good discounts.

I shall put in the distance next time - their dealership in Milton seems many yards more helpful than the dealership in Kidlington.

I've spoken to them (Marshalls South Oxford, Milton) on a couple of occasions in the past and they always seem to be very helpful.
Not sure what discounts they offer these days as my local VW dealer offer me very good deals.

Under normal circumstances, maybe. Although I have never known a dealership to give a discount on an advance payment. I always thought it was non negotiable and pretty strict as it goes through Motability.

Now, with a car and part shortage? With a huge queue for build and delivery and people paying way over sticker price for cars? I doubt very much it would happen.

I've even asked for mats to be thrown in before and never got them, this was before COVID.

I can assure you there are discounts out there. You may be unlucky with your local dealer but if you shop around you'll find something. And if its £500 its eell worth it.
