He enjoyed driving the car with it.

So would I.

Advertised for spring, later than hoped for by many no doubt.

All the best

He certainly sounds excited about it.

Interesting he seems to bang on about the extra park assist and travel assist tech - only available in MY22.5 cars ordered after 1–Dec - being made available to all in 3.0.

I suspect more disappointment incoming.

Am I missing a video or something?

The summary seemed a bit empty and not-news, certainly nothing I'm looking for :)

What’s really odd is that I ordered in October but recently added the Assistance Plus Pack on my Family Pro that was only available from 1st December on the MY22.5 car so I’m unsure if I will get the exclusive 1-Dec features you mention or not as the pack wasn’t available prior to this date and I think those features are advertised on the pack.

Based on this obviously carefully curated and announced information I’m expecting those feature upgrades to be available to the whole fleet as part of 3.0.

I’m not necessarily expecting the feature upgrades to be free, though….

I've been presuming that traffic assist lane changing and intelligent parking required the side radar, otherwise, they wouldn't have needed to add it.

Agreed! The hardware is shown in my specification document but the actual feature 'park assist' isn't shown. So I suspect they're adding the hardware to all family/max models and then might offer software upgrades later?

Quite possibly. It's listed clearly on the MY22.5 configurator as part of the "Assistance Pack Plus", along with the "Memory Feature for Park Assist Plus".

My point, however, is that the LinkedIn post very clearly implies that cars already in the hands of customers will be upgraded with those features. Which I expect to lead in disappointment, and VW walking back their promises again.

Given that only MY22.5 cars of Family spec and above have the side sensors fitted, the upgraded Travel Assist (if it requires the side sensors, which I agree seems sensible) can only work on cars that already have 3.0 installed as shipped from the factory .... which makes a nonsense of the first sentence in the written post about upgrading cars already in the hands of customers. There are no MY22.5 cars in the hands of customers.

I disagree with that. Side radar is on the configurator images for Life + Assistance. It's just family has assistance as standard.
Base life, I do agree.

If I haven't been allocated a build order date, I guess I'll end up with a MY22.5 ID3?

I ordered a Tour at the end of August 2021.

The best info we have I think is that you’ll have the MY22.5 interior, but not the additional tech in the MY22.5 tech packs.

VW dealers don’t appear to know anything definitive either, and what 3.0 enables or doesn’t also isn’t exactly clear.

This is the information VW circulated on the Facebook First Movers Club, anything else is conjecture. If a CEO makes a mistake then it wouldn't be the first time but the words uploaded to the First Movers Club will have been carefully chosen and vetted.

I'm a developer at one of the big 4 tech companies. My guess is v3.0 from the factory will come with new hardware as in a new System on Chip. A new SoC will require new drivers, hardware calibration etc. So v3.0 will be written first for this hardware. Then it will be back ported onto older hardware.

This is similar to how Google operate when a new Pixel phone is released, it will be on the newest version of Android, they then work to make the new version of Android work on older handsets. The older models then get OTA updates at a later date.

The new SoC is maybe the Samsung Exynos Auto. Just Google - VW Samsung.

I see the the hardware version on the current id3's are reporting H20. It will be interesting to see if there is any difference between MY22.5 pre and post 1st Dec.

I've not really used the infotainment system much but I hear it's slow and laggy
