I think Ohme are a joke.

Octopus offer was £499 for Ohme Pro. It seems one needs to be in the South (where things are cheaper than the Midlands)!

Then the offer increased to £549. Of course Ohme gives some nonsense message why it is not available and suggests one can get from £550.

They send data to an overpriced installer who wants well over £700 for a simple install when the charger will be on the same wall as the fuse box.

How can one justify over £700 after the EV grant for an Ohme?

I have little faith in Ohme. Their marketing and price structure seems comical.

I have OHME cable for £199 via Octopus. We already had a dumb charging socket.

We have a Wallbox charge point fitted by Octopus. The app is fairly basic but does all that we require, and the app/charger combination (so far) has fulfilled its purpose, although I did take car to ensure that the charge point can 'see' the house WiFi OK.

One really useful thing I did was to fit some brackets to the wall adjacent to the charge point, to make it much easier to coil the cable

There's a few variables in the install price - either tricky cable routing whether a Matt-E box is used instead of an earthing rod, or any amount of cable over the standard 5m tether length can up the price.

Mine cost £614 fully installed and following some of the tales of woe people have had with various other makes, I'm glad I went with Ohme.

Mine is a simple install. The charger and fusebox are on the same wall. Cabling will be 1-2 metres.
Yet they want over £700 and Ohme have every faith in their installer's quotes!

No chance is an basic Ohme Pro to cost over £700 in one house and almost £800 in another where cabling is across a double garage (and less than 10m), after the grant.

You can't expect Ohme to select the cheapest possible quote for you.

I found installation quotes from different vendors to be wildly different. I suggest you get alternative quotes, and £700 doesn't seem ridiculous assuming that an EV-specific mini-CU may need to be fitted depending on your specific installation requirements. An EV-specific mini-CU won't be included in a standard install these days, and happily adds £125 or so to the price.

If it helps, here was the work and quote for an Ohme fitted in our house from https://www.elecology.com, who did a really good job - we went with an Andersen in the end, but Elecology gave us many options of charger, including Ohme Home. Note also that this price below including an earth spike, which the Ohme Home Pro doesn't require.

Octopus say headline price is now £549. When filling and select a charger the Ohme Pro shows £595.
On email enquiry they claim it will be invoiced at £549.

If you use a different Octopus Energy link then Ohme process it and sent it to their installers and charge over £700.

I had one old £499 Octopus Energy link and got it to work and paid £499. Let's see if they honour it.

I wanted a second at a different address, a few doors away. I guess this one may cost £549 unless there is a Christmas sale!
If I am charged more I will select different install dates. They can come twice and as close to before 31st March 2022.

If it includes 15m cable, I wonder if they will give me the 13m they will not use! :D

Is the other unit a decoy for your shamelessly cheap relatives that you won't actually have switched on? Or are you having a coin operated meter installed to supply it?

Zzzzzzzzzzz

May be turning the driveway in to a car park with an EV charger and with an app charging people to use it.
I think I can manage 8 cars on the driveway and there are 30k at a university students opposite me!

I did order a second ID.3 the day before the budget hoping RIshi would scrap the EV grant which I got so I can sell the car for a tidy profit.
I got the grant, £1750 finance contribution as well and a large discount on the second car. With all these I am over £5k lower than the current DrivetheDeal price.
If some one wants a car quicker they can have my pre-reg MY22.5 Family Pro car in Magnanese grey with East Derry alloys and collect from the dealer, if it ever arrives! Watch this space. May be my wife will drive hers and then decide she wants a change of colour and I sell her stonewashed blue model instead, if that ever arrives!

Check out the Co-charger app.

Have the Andersen installed and very happy with it. Seems best looking to me, and tethered cable is out of sight when not in use. Costs more but the aesthetics were worth the extra money.

I noticed some electric showers are rated at 10.8kW but you only seem to be able to buy7kW car chargers. The current would be about 47 amps but with heavier cable this shouldn't be a problem for a modern single phase supply. The car can charge at 11kW so the supplied cable would be fine.
Using a 4 hour off peak tariff at this power would pretty much fully charge the battery or at least 20-80%.

Its a good point. I can only think 7kW is a good middle ground for households who only have a 60amp supply fuse. 47amps would not leave much headroom.

True but at the off peak times of say 12.30-4.30 there would be little else connected. Also a lot of chargers have power monitoring circuits. I'm wondering if the car socket needs a three phase supply to charge at 11kW as the voltage would be about 400v so a lower amperage.

It does - the 11 kW charging capability is 3 phase. Max with a single phase supply is 7.2 kW.

I needed one in an external waterproof enclosure as the supply for the chargepoint was taken straight from external meter cupboard to the charge point. From memory it added about £150.

Octopus Energy state a standard install includes:

A Type A RCD in metal Consumer Unit.

Does this mean they supply a mini-consumer unit (< £20 from Amazon) as standard?

We had to have one installed.

Here's the breakdown of costs we paid if it should help, minus the cost of the charger itself and labour:

Power & Data Cable 6MM 3 CORE +2 10 £8.00
Cable Glands 20mm 2 £5.80
Meter Tails 25MM x 2 1 £18.99
Henley Block 2 Pole x 3 1 £11.99
Mini Consumer Unit WX 3 Mod 1 £11.50
Main Switch 63AMP 1 £8.25
32 AMP RCBO Type A 1 £32.49
Installation Accessories General 1 £25.00

The bloke who did ours is based in Hampshire and was brilliant, should anyone need a recommendation.
