Apple Maps oddity?

We live near York. Haven’t been here that long and fancied a trip out to Filey today. Don’t really know the way, so searched Apple maps. Started Carplay when we got in the car. Selected the route I had set on my iPhone for Filey and off we went. With much chatting and listening to the endless mishaps of Boris the truthful on the radio, I just blindly followed the Apple maps route info. So when we got to Whitby……………
Yep, that’s where it took us. Not Filey as requested but Whitby. As it was just a day out for a bag of chips, we didn’t really care that much but what on earth went wrong?
Has anyone else experienced anything like this?

Checked your destination history in Apple Maps to see how it might have done that?

Yep. Filey is there, Whitby isn’t.

I’m beginning to suspect it might be user error. We all know that “if computer says so, it can’t be wrong”. Can it?
