6 weeks in and been hit by another car
Its been almost 6 weeks since I picked up my new ID.3 and yesterday as I was waiting at a red light, a car who was turning onto the road I was on from a side road misjudged the distance between our cars and scraped my car just under the rear driver tail light. I was very upset when it happened but thankfully it wasn't worse and the damage is fairly minor. Hoping to get it repaired soon and have claimed under my insurance
Does anyone know if this will have any impact on my PCP agreement when it comes to the end? Will I lose any value on the car? It will be repaired so it should be good as new soon enough (I hope). It looks like they'll try and do a body repair at home first and if that's not possible it'll go to a body shop. If there's anything anyone recommends mentioning to the repair people to ensure its properly repaired please let me know too! I'm not the most well versed in car body repairs!

That's a pain. This has happened to me twice on new cars. I would insist on a vw repair shop. Expect an argument with your insurer who will want it to go to their approved workshops or risk your excess not being refunded. Thats not on with a 6 week old car.
If it was the other parties fault you will get the excess back.

Thank you, it was definitely the other parties fault and I believe they've admitted liability. I was stationary at a red light when this happened. They're sending me to auto glass for a mobile repair, so perhaps I should try and get them to take the car to the VW garage?

If the panel is even a tad out of line it's too much for a cosmetic repair. The insurer will want an absolute minimum cost repair. Not on for a £30k plus car 6 weeks old. Stand your ground and insist.
If vw decide it needs a panel the cost will be much more than a cosmetic repair. The other parties paying so you have good grounds to insist.

I’d immediate refuse. I wouldn’t trust Autoglass with glass, let alone a bodywork repair. Personally I’d insist on a VW-authorised repairer.
I’d be insisting on taking my vehicle to Frosts in Milton Keynes I think in your shoes - nearest approved VW repairer to us certified to work on EV.

I find it depends very much on the insurer. When our old Countryman got clobbered the clobberer was with Churchill and literally nothing was too much trouble, they were absolutely brilliant.
Time before that was with Lloyds and they were utterly, utterly dreadful.

If the other party has admitted liability, it is absolutely your prerogative to determine where it goes to repair. If you had a fault claim, you'd have a battle with your insurer and they sometimes charge you a higher excess to not go with their nominated repairer.
Autoglass smart repair? No way. Get it done prperly (respray of bumper if not damaged) somewhere reputable, not necessarily a VW dealership's repair shop, but a one with a good reputation that is VW approved but not necessarily part of a VW dealership.
Near me, our local Lookers group has 2 bodyshops. 1 is absolutely atrocious.
My 2 week old Golf GT 170TDI was clattered by a bus and left 12 feet from where I parked it when picking up a take away. The repairing dealership hot all parts in 10 days, then took a further 7 weeks to repair, giving me a car back in the dark, with driving rain, so I was eager to get away, not noticing the metal shards all over the interior, oily handprints on the roof lining and missing plastic wheel arch liners. On the drive home it was also apparent that the brakes weren't right (loose caliper). It took them 3 goes to do it and even then, the wheel arch on the new rear quarter panel rusted up every 3 months and needed a total of 5 remedial before I got sick and traded it in against a Scirocco.. I wasn't tge only one having issues - met a lot of disgruntled customers going back for remedial works and chasing up why my car was untouched for repair 5 weeks after the parts turned up (Lookers Newcastle bodyshop, near the Arena - avoid like the plague).
The other one, closer to home at Tyne Tunnel trading estate repainted a bumper on my Golf R that someone scuffed in a supermarket car park. The repair was fine, except they never reconnected the headlight washer jets properly and I was losing a litre of washing fluid a day. They tried to deny it was them.
I use the local BMW Dealership group's bodyshop (Coopers, Boldon) and they are excellent.

Just a word of caution - on 1st March, had an attack of sneezing on narrow section of road and hit bollards, damaging front valance. Phoned VW concerning repair to be told that all local VW repair centres were closed due to COVID and given choices of repair centres 30 to 40 miles away with a six to eight week waiting list. Contacted insurer who came up with similar story but repair now booked in on 7th April with non VW repairer some 20 miles away to replace plastic front valance - no other damage.
Hope you don't have similar problem.

I'll second, third and fourth that, Lloyds are utterly awful.Utumno wrote: ↑Sat Apr 02, 2022 5:06 pm I find it depends very much on the insurer. When our old Countryman got clobbered the clobberer was with Churchill and literally nothing was too much trouble, they were absolutely brilliant.

Thank you for all of your help. I've called the insurers this morning who have informed me that I am free to choose my own repair centre but in the case I don't use one of their approved ones I'd have to pay my excess and and extra £200 on top of that. I'd only recover those costs if they get an admission of liability for the third parties insurers which they don't have yet but they think its very likely that my claim will be a non-fault claim.
Is this standard? I was a bit surprised to have to fork out that money with no guarantee of getting it back whilst also being told last week that it would go through as a non-fault claim

That is my experience. I said at the start of the thread they will lay a threat on your excess if you don't use their repair shops.
Liability will follow if the the other vehicles insurance is paying. I doubt you will ever get near paying the excess.

Where did they get the extra £200 from? Is that in their small print? What is it with insurance companies? These systems are meant to be there to give us piece of mind, and all they seem to do is add more cost to an already stressful situation.ksoni94 wrote: ↑Mon Apr 04, 2022 9:20 am Thank you for all of your help. This situation is where legal cover often pays for itself. Someone drove in the back of me after I stopped at the top of a sliproad, waiting for a gap In an overpass roundabout. I'd been static for about 30 seconds when a Berlingo van drove up the back of me and its front end fell to bits like a clown car. Absolute slam dunk non fault case. I had photos I had front and rear dashcam footage that showed him messing on with a phone and looking up and looking shocked.
His tactic was to not contact his own insurers, nor acknowledge any attempts by his own insurer to contact him. As a result, the decision of liability was not made - they need the other party's version of events. However, in the face of overwhelming evidence, his insurer paid all costs "without prejudice", and I got my excess back, which I initially had to pay, and it was double because I'd insisted it go to Coopers BMW bodyshop.

Im glad to hear excesses were paid back. I've gone to my local VW bodyshop who are happy to take on the repair work. I initially wanted to wait for my insurers to get the admission of liability before going ahead with the repair so I can have some reassurance I'd get my excess back but I was told I couldn't do that as they need to approve my repairs to start the process of claiming money back from the third parties insurers. So I am slightly worried about paying the excess and then not hearing from my insurers

Insist on getting a VW repair. My Zoe was hit when 6 weeks old and I used the repairer that my insurers owned. I was never happy with the repair, they changed the drivers door, didn't replace the tyre pressure sticker, I suspect they didn't fit the sound absorbent pads inside so it sounded like a van door when it was closed. They used water based paint rather than the original Renault paint, it was quite a good match for a white car when I collected it but over the years it faded differently to the rest of the car.
Insurers use the 'If the liability is not determined, you will have to pay the excess if you don't use our approved repairer card' Stand your ground especially if you know the other driver has admitted liability.
