There have been contradictory messages from VW about whether the dealer will contact you, whether you will need to contact the dealer, and how VW will communicate that the process is 'live'. Last time they used an email to people with registered weconnect ID accounts. If you didn't see the email, tough luck. Most VW comms on upgrades since then have come through the ID Driver's Facebook group. None of us know yet what the comms route will be for this 2.4 update. My bet is that people who are tuned in to things like the Facebook group and these forums will know it has started long before people who just wait to hear from their dealers.

Hi. I’ve had the same experience i.e new car with 3.0 and the id light was not working. I’m just about to pick the car up from the dealer. They have either reset the control unit for the id light or updated the software (depending on who I’ve spoken to at the garage) but the good news is that they’ve told me it is fixed. Would seem a common problem. Annoyingly not one that was picked up before the car was delivered.

Also wondering if 2.4 has anything in it in the way of doing something with the screen behind the steering wheel as 33% of the screen on mine is pure black screen with nothing on it, enlarging the lane assist feels off as the speedo is then not central. Just feels really weird to not be able to have something else there and have so much unused real-estate.
If I use Apple Maps on CarPlay, that right hand screen shows directions - Using Waze or Google Maps doesn't show anything. I haven't tried the built in satnav as yet.

So a question on the 2.3 to 2.4/3.0/3.1 upgrade? My car was delivered at the start of April, so will that need to get a new battery fitted to be able to get the 2.4 update, or would it already have the "better" battery from the factory?

I don't know when mine was built though, but it was ordered by the garage/lease company last August.

We were told a while back (March?) that all cars including those delivered with 2.3 fairly recently would need the full 2.4 upgrade including the new battery. (I was also interested in this as mine was delivered in January.) It's possible something like that might have changed I suppose in the last month or two, but unless you are specifically told otherwise when it gets called in then I would assume it needs the lot.
Re build date, there will probably be some parts with dated stickers under the bonnet and the final dated QA signoff sheet should be somewhere in the glovebox. The start of the chassis build would likely be the confirmed build week you were given. You can find this on the metal plate attached to the inside of one of the B pillars if you know how to read it... mine confirmed the week I had been by the dealer (which was week 45 2021).

I see,

So currently the screen does show things but only for apple, android are sold short :'(
Meanwhile today after being outside and trying to figure out how the mirrors work for reversing (not got them to lower yet, not sure how to get that bit working), I spotted 2 errors or notices.

20220517_151638.jpg

Called up the dealership who booked me in right away, then had to pop out and as if by magic, they vanished........ o.O Anyone else with mythical errors

The dealership also confirmed they would contact me and book me in when and if the 2.4 update comes out.

No - only if you have an Apple phone but use Google maps through Carplay. If you use Google maps through Android Auto then it all works as it should and you get directions in the driver's screen. If you use the in car nav, you get that plus ID light directions.

Dipping side mirror for reversing:

You need to set and store the dipped position manually to begin with.

Select reverse gear
Select LH mirror
Adjust mirror to view kerb
Select neutral

The LH mirror should return to the previous position. When you later select the LH mirror on the rotary switch and select reverse gear, the mirror should dip to the position you previously set (above)

[p.111 of the manual which was included only with early cars]

Also, you need to select L on the mirror switch *every time* you want the mirror to dip.

This is the bit that winds me up. I don't mind the initial setup, but every time you want to reverse carefully, you realise there are 2 steps - engage reverse & turn the mirror selector to 'L' - which usually results in an accidental car unlock or even worse, both mirrors folding up into the park position depending on what you touch or how far you turn it.

Must do better, VW, must do better.

3rd VAG car in a row (Superb, Arteon and now ID.3) and only the ID has this "feature". It's one of those annoying things that makes you think if the UX designers for the car have ever driven one. Seriously that got signed off in a meeting somewhere!?

If I didn't want the mirror to dip every time I put the car in reverse, I would disable the option in settings - the fact that I have that enabled should mean that it is enabled and not just kind of...

That's pretty bad - shipping a car that they know will need a replacement battery and recall imminently. I know they're under pressure to get them out of the factory, but it's not what we should expect...

Plus the hassle and inconvenience of taking the car to a dealer for the day. My local dealership is only 5 minutes walk from my office but since they failed to fix an issue on the last car after 5 visits (ended up with a case of wine as an apology but still no fix) I don't really have that much faith that they can change the battery without putting it on backwards!

Not sure if you have the HUD, but would the directions in the driver screen also extend to the HUD when using Google Maps through Android Auto?

I would set it as default on, selectable in the settings on the touch screen and use the drive selector if you don't want it to dip, i.e. turn anti-clockwise to select reverse and dip mirror, turn it anti-clockwise a second time to select non dipping. Having to stop, move your attention to the door card selector and move it one click is just bonkers.

I can say that Apple Maps does, except Apple Maps is rubbish so I use Waze, which doesn't show in the HUD, nor does Google Maps - but this is on an iPhone/Carplay - can't answer for Android Auto.

The AR chevrons do not work for anything other than the useless in-car SatNav - hope that changes.

Thanks, that's useful. As you can probably tell from my signature, I'm getting a cousin of the ID.3 but clearly the infotainment is 90% common. Once the thing turns up, I'll report back anyway, but would be nice if Google Maps was a solid option as, from a routing / traffic avoidance point of view, it's superb.

OOI, any particular reason you find the built-in system so poor?

The database is terribly out of date, 8/9 years in places and subseequently the search is substandard. For example, when I am on my road, the GPS correctly displays the road name, but if I search for the road name then nothing appears.

Plus a lack of POI, such as speed camera locations, food locations, "petrol" stations, charging..

I live in Spain so I don't know if that's a factor.

The technician at the dealer seemed to think it was a known problem and said that there was a technical bulletin about it. I'm afraid I'm still not clear whether they just reset the control unit or updated its software. Light works fine now.
