I doubt things are quite as bad as the impression on here but in the end it’s about trust and confidence.
I went through assorted nonsense for a few months with the 1st edition on 0564. So when we now get an inexplicable ‘update hang’ and hopeless screen message for the WeCharge app my wife says ‘do you think we will always have that message now’. And my reply is ‘it needs a rest overnight and then it will probably finish ok’.

There seems to be a theme in this thread. My 2.4 update has now been delayed until late September, citing availability of specialists to perform the job.

Not a problem though. No complaints about 2.3. Well, none that will be resolved by 2.4.

Update on mine from Friday. Swindon inchcape. They managed to get it all done all Delivered back to me. They tried all weekend then had a bulletin from VAG Monday which had information on making it work. So all good
Now wait for the new 3.0 update with all the big changes.

Y was due to go in today but received a phone yesterday afternoon postponing until further notice due to a multitude of reasons such as staff shortages especially the technician's needed for this update so they are only doing 1 a week. The main reason is at the moment an ID3 came in on a recovery truck last for an unrelated issue and they decided to update that vehicle but they are waiting for a part so to complete the update.
If this goes on for a while I'll try another dealer.

My car went in on monday for the 2.4 update and battery change, came back tuesday afternoon.

When I got in it tuesday evening the software was still showing 2.3 and additionally the sunroof no longer works (the button moves it about 1cm about 8 times then it stops and same in other direction - the controls in the computer just says 'Function not available'

After several conversations with the (unhelpful) VW retailer, they said the update they have done is right but it will still show 2.3 as it only enables VW to perform the update over the air. I then looked and a software update popped through on the car, (retailer told me there would be 2, one for 7h and one for 4h - based on what i dont know!) so I let it finish which took 5m, left it alone, and the alarm started sounding on the car. Went back to it and it said it was complete, altho after exiting that screen there is nothing related to it whatsoever, version is still 2.3 and my sunroof still doesnt work.

I said i'd give it another day or 2 to see if this over the air update will now come through but im very doubtful and not expecting it to fix the sunroof.

Software still reads 2.3.0 but should be 0912.

Those other little sw updates are the wecharge app and updates for that. 3.0 is large and several hours to install.

Crazy that you have 2.4 but they cant update the software to actually say 2.4.... does seem odd. I was hoping it wasn't done correctly and it would fix sunroof but by sounds of it... its done now?

Isn't 2.4 meant to bring in things like % next to the battery levels etc? Im not seeing any improvements in software at all currently.

I think you should go back to your dealer. 2.4 is not supposed to knacker the sunroof control - they might have installed a faulty module. If it happens to me I will get them to fix it before 3.0 comes along.

Battery % is with 3.0, not 2.4.

Went into main dealer about three weeks ago and got date of Monday 25th July for 2.4 update with a notification that it could take "up to two days" as my local service garage had only one trained technician and there could be mild problems.

Arrived at local workshop to find another iD3 already there and its update started. You can guess what happened - car 1 had update problem so my car was delayed and eventually got car back early morning today, Wed 27th July.

Garage have been very good at keeping me updated and have admitted that they should not have attempted to update two cars in a 4 hour stagger pattern. In future they are only booking one car in every two days - Friday excluded - until they have confidence in update installation.

I have the Family model and have no problems with sunroof, opens and shuts correctly. Only problem I have found so far is with ambient lighting. I used to have green lighting as highlight on screen display and different colours on dash and door panels - picked by grand-daughter. Now have dash colours according to door colours - will have to get grand-daughter back to set colours correctly.

Took my ID3 Business into Swansway Wrexham on Monday morning for the 2.4 update and 12v battery replacement and also to fix the aircon which wasn’t cooling at all.
The update started ok but stopped and wouldn’t restart and after checking with VW Technical apparently it was the aircon fault which was causing the stoppage. After technical assistance the update eventually completed so it seems existing faults already in the car can cause update problems.
The aircon fault was a faulty G395 pressure sensor which unfortunately is on back order so should be fixed when the sensor is received.
Picked the car up at lunch time today, Wednesday. Great communication from Lewis at Swansway Wrexham service department.

I've found more problems with my vehicle. The car2x is disabled and won't turn on and my second key somehow no longer operates the car.

No idea how they've messed this up so bad.

I think the Comms from both vw and my personal retailer has been awful.

Also noticed that I have now got 2 zone aircon which I didn’t have prior to the update as others have reported, even though the aircon doesn’t cool due to the faulty pressure sensor.

And yet 2 weeks after the launch of the update/recall process your car was already done?

I know you were simply trying to see things with a glass half full...but it's funny to read your comment and then see a series of posts complaining either about the update or problems caused by the update.

He's right though. There are lots of people when asked on Facebook groups who said theirs has worked ok. There are many also complaining but whose car was done fine, it just took two days instead of one. The forum does give an overly negative impression, no doubt. Ours is booked in on Monday and we don't have a courtesy car... which is fine as long as it doesn't take beyond the end of the week. On balance I'm going to keep the booking.

Car went in yesterday for the update, Booked in with a courtesy car and no courtesy car available on the day so not a good start

One day went to two and now hopefully three days, no reason given for the delay!

I’ve never had anyone say I’m a Half glass full person before.
Thank you. 😛
I mean, it’s gonna be far more of a mess than it should be given the time they’ve had. It’s hard to be objective about just how much of a mess! But forums are notorious…
Clearly many dealers are giving it a wide implementation berth in terms of doing the upgrade that tells you something about their level of confidence and the word on the dealer grapevine.
Have I ruined it now😂

Ps. It’s likely I will be getting a Niro EV in September so I will likely abort my 2.4 upgrade booking- what’s the point in taking the risk when I’m about to sell my ID3?
I’ll do a couple of posts on ID3 vs Niro EV once I get it for interest. Maybe I’ll regret it, the ID3 has been literally really solid in many ways…but irritating in others (my current Sos error message says ‘hello’!)

I have now had my car done. 4 days of problems and crashes. I spoke to 2 dealers including the one I took mine to Swindon inchcape vw. Statistically they have a 20% failure rate on the update based on these two dealers so no it’s not good.
I’m an easy going guy and just left the car there for 4 days while they sorted it, after all it’s new tech, they’re not experts, all info comes from Germany atm.
They sorted it and it’s fine, just a learning curve for most uk dealers.
Hopefully they’ll learn from all of us early updaters and yours will be perfect in 4hrs quoted time. (From Germany)
