There seems to be a massive, no gigantic, no Intergallactic difference between dealerships.
Some people are getting hampers and gifts for the inconvenience
I am in North Wales where after several unreturned phone calls about the update I eventually booked via the VW booking system only to then be told by the dealership that they do not supply courtesy cars in any circumstances. Unfotunately the next convenient dealership to me, which I have used for a number of years up to recently seems to have had a complete change of staff and their attitude to customer service seems to be that they are doing me a favour accepting my custom.
Mine's going in on the 24th August, there's no car booked as the dealership is walking distance from my work, but if it fails I am going to be stranded at 5:00 pm unless they find a vehicle to give me.. let's see what happens.

I wish you luck with that G43FAN but have we heard of anyone who has had the job completed within the one day?

I get the impression some dealers don't really want the work. Maybe they are the ones whose staff aren't so happy working with software or for some other reason are likely to have problems, in which case they are probably best avoided anyway.
Re: courtesy cars I think it's an issue of availability, like cars everywhere. At my work the hire car situation is currently dire so I am just taking my own car everywhere for site visits. Some people seem to have got lucky and found a dealer that has an ID5 lying around, others not so much. We were told we could only have a courtesy if we waited another month, so decided to go without. But we have two cars, I work from home most days and the garage is only ten minutes away, so for us a few days without it was no big deal. I guess those who need their car every day will mostly just have to travel further and/or wait longer for their appointment.

Yes quite a few on the UK ID3 Facebook group. One guy was apparently done in 4 hours. Most seem to be taking overnight though - or at least, booked in overnight to set expectations.

  • More worryingly, my charging locations (using to set preferred charging times) were cleared when I got the car back. I did not think it was completely unreasonable given the software update but would have appreciated being warned. I have now added the location back three times (seemingly successfully) and each time the location seems to be deleted overnight. I've not seen this reported elsewhere and would welcome any suggestions!

My only suggestion is to make a stink at your VW dealership until they sort you out.
I took mine back to the dealer last Thursday and demonstrated the issue to them. They didn’t keep the car but have submitted a case to the factory. I chased on Tuesday and, not unsurprisingly, they had not heard anything.
Dealer advised me to contact the We team (who replied with "we are investigating" (and customer services (who replied to a completely different email address with "we can't do anything"). Frankly, I don't have much faith in VW's IT operations.

When I got in it tuesday evening the software was still showing 2.3 and additionally the sunroof no longer works (the button moves it about 1cm about 8 times then it stops and same in other direction - the controls in the computer just says 'Function not available'

I said i'd give it another day or 2 to see if this over the air update will now come through but im very doubtful and not expecting it to fix the sunroof.
Hi Kevin,

Did the issue with your sunblind get resolved? I have the same problem after the 2.4 upgrade which was completed on Thursday 28th July.

Another user on here (sidehaas) has reported the same problem (see this post: viewtopic.php?p=29549#p29549) but thought it was a change in how you use the slider. I have tried, but still no success.

Any info you have I can pass on to dealer when I call would be helpful.

Cheers,

Paul.

Just called to check on booking for next week. Had to rearrange as specialist will be unavailable, and asked how many they had done to date. Didn't give a number, but "quite a few", and said most have completed in a day, but still have 2 day bookings just in case. All have been succesful. Heritage, Gloucester. Feel a little less nervous now!

I had wondered if the sunroof change might be intentional, but I'm not very keen. It doesn't bother me enough to go back to the dealer, I'll just hold out until I get 3.0 and see what it's like then.
If it is like mine then you can still move it fully open/closed, but you need to keep your finger on while it's moving, and in the right part of the switch. Basically, it operates more like two different press&hold switches (one for forward one for back) rather than as a slider. If you swipe it, you just get a very small movement as your finger passes over the bit where you need to hold it.

I got the E-mail from VW on 18 Jul. My local VW Service Station (on the VW list) had the batteries and the perfectly working car went in for "2 days" on 22 Jul. The battery was changed, the update went in and the car has been off the road ever since due to a raft of "error messages" and time delays between VW Technical and my garage. The latest is the requirement for a new "Positive Temperature Coefficient (PTC)" unit which is not available in the UK or Germany.... the parts order is a VW priority but there is no news. The car is in bits and has now been unavailable for over 2 weeks. Has anyone else had a similar experience or am I just unlucky?

That's horrendous! Have you got a loan car? Is it electric, but if not, are they paying your fuel bills?
Mine is booked (rebooked) in for September 15th. I hope to all that is holy, that they have got their act together.

Further to my post about lost charging location settings, I've now been advised by VW that this behaviour is known and understood, at least by VW themselves. Apparently the in-dealer update operation doesn't finish the job - the Infotainment unit will continue to update (OTA probably) for "some time" thereafter. It appears to update in chunks, and each time, it erases the data...
When pressed, the agent said it was "most likely" a few days rather than a week, but it would resolve itself eventually.
I suggested it might be sensible to actually tell customers about this rather than leave them frustrated. Apparently no one at VW had thought of this simple but effective idea. So you heard it here first!

Thanks sidehaas.

You wouldn't believe how much time I've spent 'fingering' that slider! Was convinced it was broken, saved me a trip to the dealers.

Does the Sun Blind still behave normally if you use the on screen option in the car menu to control it?

My sunroof is working exactly as it did before, 1 swipe for open or close and you can partial swipe and hold or stop and open or close with a tap

I think some of the dealers are trying to be very careful, my dealer had my car for just over 2 days.
Day 1 - charge new 12 battery for 6 hr
Day 2 - fit and upgrade (I'm sure it did not take all of the day)
Day 3 - I was rung shortly after 9am to collect - dealer wanted to double-check the car having left it overnight.

If a dealer is prepared with a charged battery, subject to no errors on the upgrade then this is easily a same-day service

My car was due in to the dealers next Tuesday for this work. They rang me today to say their 'one technician who deals with electric cars' is off sick and they don't when he will be back to work. They are not a small dealer either. One technician!

Interesting - mine has never had a partial swipe function - before the update, one way went to full close and one to full open, it wasn't possible to stop it halfway from the slider (I didn't realise there was a control on the screen somewhere). Maybe it has a fault.

My ID.3 Pro had its battery Change and Software Update 2.4 today and whilst it took two full days, it all went flawlessly with no issues. All the reported issues post update by members here and which I was on the look-out never came-up. May be I'm just lucky but the VW Dealer (Vindis of Bedford) had done a few before mine so perhaps have came to grip with how it is done?

Now wait for the big 3.0 to come!

Collected my ID3 Family Pro this afternoon after its upgrade. Was in there for two days. Was looking out for all the issues that you guys have raised on the forum but so far so good. Well done to Tony and his crew at Robinson's VW in Norwich.
