Dashboard light question

I have noticed this light - the one along the front of the dashboard at the bottom of the window - and believe it to have some significance. I am not sure, though, what its significance is. It sometimes flashes for no apparent reason. Any clues, lovely people?

Thank you. That all feels like too much distraction from watching the road but perhaps I'm being old-fashioned in that.

Well, I think it's best used for things you need to see while driving (turning signals, emergency stop warnings). To be fair it's quite well positioned so you can see it in your peripheral vision while watching the road I think. However I don't think it's made best use of yet.

It’s largely a solution looking for a problem imho.
18 months in and I pay no attention to it (aside from when the red collision alert comes on for no good reason and distracts me…)
