I still follow this now and then…I would have been 12 months plus and I think it’s a pro 150bhp issue like the max and tour’s that were slow in coming through recently?? Just to add salt to the wounds my C40 that I ordered in March is currently scheduled to be on the drive before my ID3 was scheduled to be built that I ordered last September!!

Will be in the 12 month club in 19 days! I have a provisional build date of week 36 which is next month but I will believe it when I actually see and touch it lol. I am hoping that it is not one that has been partially built as I prefer the new seat coverings

Also this, looks like no grant now for the 12 months + people, really feel for you guys if its all true at either paying more or cancelling after waiting 12 months already,

I said this will happen months ago when I cancelled for the C40 (due next month) as the government won’t give money away and VW can sell the car to the next customer

I take it that when you lease a vehicle you are not the legal owner and therefore non payment of a grant is the responsibility of the leasing company?

It seems unlikely that the grant will be extended. The purpose of the grants was to encourage people to buy EVs, to help get early adoption going. No one needs to be encouraged to buy an EV now. From the government's perspective, it doesn't matter if the original buyer can't afford or doesn't want the car now, as it'll just go to someone else instead. With the grant being gone now for new orders, there's no real risk of the policy failing (i.e. discouraging EV adoption) as the market has already adjusted to the incentives being gone.

While other countries might still decide to provide subsidies, the truth is that giving people a few grand when it'll make no difference to policy outcomes isn't really a good use of government money during an inflation crisis. The extra £2.5k an owner might now need to put into the car means another £2.5k that won't be sloshing around the economy bidding up other prices. Extending it by a few months seemed sensible as an initial response but the Treasury will not be keen on extending it forever. Also, with inflation being as it is, hasn't the value of the car probably increased by the grant amount anyway? If inflation is 10%, then after 12 months a £30k car turns into a £33k car. If you paid in full back when you ordered, then you might have a real complaint, but anyone who just put down a deposit with full payment on delivery is no worse off financially.

If you were going to structure an EV incentive now, you'd actually take the opportunity to add new, hefty taxes to vehicle classes which are viable as EVs. There's no good reason for someone to buy an S-Class when the EQS exists. Looking at the long term, the crossover point for EV affordability is really low. A Corsa-e will be cheaper to finance and run than a petrol one now for most people. There may be certain people for whom an EV just won't work, but all you'd need is to keep a reasonable range of basic-ish ICE cars (up to Tiguan size) in the lower tax band as no one can really claim anything more would be essential.

I received the following email from my dealer when I asked why I have lost the grant despite not hitting the 12 month period since ordering

"The government are only honouring the grants for orders placed before 09/08/2021"

I don't think it's phased correctly as it doesn't make sense. How can a customer be offered something that doesn't exist at the time of ordering?

Did the dealer initiate the conversation about the withdrawal or was it a response to question from you? I ask because I ordered on the 16th September and have heard nothing to say that the grant has been withdrawn in those circumstances, my order form also includes the £2.5k in the price calculations. Because my scheduled build week is only three weeks before the first anniversary, they did suggest that as soon as they know the car is on a ship, they would register the car so I would get the grant. Losing the grant effectively increases the cost of the car by around 7%, not an insignificant amount.

Yeah if anything it would be after that date given it's the 12 month point.

I think that dealer is in a world of their own, when the criteria was changed about the maximum price per vehicle and the amount of the grant changing (earlier this year?), it specifically mentioned that it did not affect orders made in the previous couple of days but still to be registered with the Govt portal.
My Govt Grant is listed as a Dealer Accessory along with registration fee etc and my dealer has assured me that "all previous deposit contributions and govt grant are honoured" and that was in response to a direct question about order to delivery potentially taking over 12 months.
There is a huge shitstorm brewing on the very near horizon.

No. Out of the blue they emailed me to say I have lost the grant. As I ordered in Sep 2021, I replied asking whether this meant it will be delivered after that date and their response was the one above. Puzzling...

Im sticking with it. The car is on a PCP so I don't think they'd benefit from pocketing the grant and lying to me to increase my monthly payments

This I don’t understand I ordered 8-10-21 well after this cut off date you were told I now have my car the price and grant were honoured. Also the grant made all the difference to me made it much more affordable
When I thought I might go over 12 months I did go whether to contact my local mp tv watchdog (bbc ) which magazine national newspaper or anybody who would listen.

Today marks my 12 month since order, I was hopeful VW could build me a car. Currently due to ordering a max, I’ve a feeling it will end up being another 6-12 month wait.

I'm really sorry to hear your news TE. I ordered my Tour Pro the day after you ordered your iD and was actually a bit miffed to have to wait until 31st May (my birthday, ironically) to take ownership but now I can see I was very fortunate.

Delivery delays seem very random - at least with a postcode lottery you have a postcode. ;)

Now on year and a day since order.
My build week has been holding steady at week 34, which I believe is next week.
Not holding my breath I will email dealer next week and fully expect to be bumped into 2023.
Can't be bothered to be excited or frustrated. Just hoping I can rekindle the spark if it ever arrives.
