Many threads on part of this topic but I have managed to have an actual accident after I think the emergency brake engaged and somehow I disengaged it so quickly I shot back into my fence!
So - reversing into my driveway. Quite a tight space but I was completely in control, manoeuvring between kerbs. Suddenly it just felt like everything was out of control. Very scary. I shot back into my gate. I initially thought I had pressed the accelerator rather than the brake but honestly, I don’t think this is what happened. I think the car emergency brakes due to kerb proximity but I kind of kept moving if that makes sense. All happened so quickly that when it emergency braked djs was I moving from B to R, pressed accelerator and shot back? I know most will probably say ‘what an eejit’ but it does worry me
What just happened?!? Emergency brake?
Probably, you didn’t actually hit the gate, but only felt like you did due to the abrupt intervention of the automatic braking system. Next time, either proceed more slowly or, if you trust yourself, disable the automatic braking system—but do so at your own risk
When I've had the emergency brake operate (happens occasionally since the sensor can't tell the difference between a tall flower stalk beside our driveway and a concrete bollard), it really does feel as if the car has run into a brick wall. Actually, the deceleration may not be that much, but there's a very loud BANG which is quite a shock.
We have had issues with the emergency breaking when reversing out of our garage close to a hedge. Yesterday it did it when we were driving out of our close, passing a parked car.
The jolt is severe and risks whiplash. I have a problem with a trapped nerve in my neck and can do without this kind of jolt.
Is there a way to turn off this system or reduce its sensitivity because its positively dangerous. thanks

If you indicate it cancels the emergency braking, this is good practice anyway, even if these is no other traffic.
