The Volkswagen ID.3 has been given its 13th and 14th awards from experts in the British media, alongside the legendary Golf GTI picking up another prize for its appeal to those in the market for a used hot hatchback. This latest trio of trophies takes Volkswagen’s 2021 total to 29 titles and accolades, over one third of which were won by the highly respected and acclaimed ID.3.

Parkers named the ID.3 its ‘Best Medium Electric Car’ at its annual awards – its 13th award from media experts. The judging panel lauded the model’s breadth of appeal, impressive range from a single charge, its interior, as well as its stylish good looks. It summarised with: “if you’re not in the market for an electric car, the ID.3 is good enough that it might make the case that you should be.”

Keith Adams, Editor of Parkers, said: “The ID.3 is one of those products that’s just about perfect on every level, and has been a game-changer for its maker. Where to begin? I love its looks and futuristic – but user-friendly – interior; the choice of short, medium, and long-range models; and sheer practicality of its interior. The main reason for winning the award has to be that Volkswagen has created a new electric car that the vast majority of families will be able to use without changing their daily routines – quite an achievement!”

Joining Parkers in applauding the ID.3 is Carbuyer, which named the model ‘Best Small Company Car’ – its second consecutive award from the title, as well as the ID.3’s second accolade celebrating its virtues for business users. The publication’s sister title, Auto Express, presented the ID.3 with a similar prize previously for its appeal as a company car, highlighting the model’s low running costs, as well as Volkswagen’s huge investment into EVs, which has seen it well-positioned for the switch to electric mobility by the British public.

Richard Ingram, Editor of Carbuyer, said: “Electric cars make fantastic financial sense – and even more so for business users. If you’re after a company car that’s good value, spacious inside and easy to live with, with cutting-edge technology and a usable electric range, the Volkswagen ID.3 is impossible to beat.”

Alongside the ID.3’s triumph as Best Small Company Car, Carbuyer also awarded the Golf GTI the title of ‘Best Used Hot Hatchback’ at its annual awards, celebrating the Mk 7.5’s appeal as a hot hatchback on the used market. Ingram, commenting on the Golf GTI’s success, said: “A sound purchase new, the Mk 7.5 Volkswagen Golf GTI blows its rivals out of the water when buying one second-hand. Everything we loved about the hot hatchback at launch still rings true today; strong performance, excellent everyday usability and a high-quality interior. All for a fraction of the price.”

This latest victory is the seventh time the Golf as a whole has been celebrated this year. Titles have been given across both the current and previous-generation models, as well as the standard Golf and Golf R, spanning all aspects of the model, from its company car appeal, to towing skill, to sheer all-round talent.

James Douglas, Head of Sales Operations at Volkswagen UK, said: “What a combination of awards – the ID.3 and Golf GTI represent two strengths of our brand in both e-mobility and driving pleasure. And it is great, too, to receive further recognition for our attraction as a used car choice.

“The ID.3 goes above and beyond its brief – offering numerous benefits to a wide variety of drivers – and that’s why it’s earned the unofficial nickname of ‘The People’s Electric Car’ with experts. The Golf GTI, meanwhile, is something of a ‘People’s Performance Car’, given the icon status it has earned over a career that has made waves across the last six decades. The volume of trophies and titles it has won over the years proves that, as does the model’s enormous fan-base.”
