Mmm after seeing that I didn’t know that physically different cars are built at the same time on the same line and from different brands too, makes me think the actual delays for some peoples ID3 cars at the moment is the update to MY22.5 forcing a cancellation of builds and having to produce the ID5 now and squeezing in the Born soon so it’s a scheduling issue hence the change in lead times and what we are getting told at the moment is not the full truth because there is no schedule and realistically it could just be an extra several weeks not months ….but then add in chip shortage = disaster and unknown at the moment

The positive to take from the film was the claimed output that they achieved.
If they are actually fully ramped in terms of output where are all the cars going and what has gone wrong with capacity planning ?
As mentioned above, interesting to see the different models being built together.

The factory must be working at drastically reduced capacity to have built up such massive lead times. Interesting that different vehicles can be assembled on the same line but that poses more questions about the delays to specific models. There must be specific components for those models in extremely short supply or some strategic decision to focus resources on delivering some models at the expense of others.

It's quite eye-opening seeing a video like that where they're going over the production cycle of a manufacturer and you start to consider all the cars that are all being built at the same time using a majority of the same basic components or variations of the same components, all using just-in-time production processes, it's kinda scary to think just how many of each car are potentially being built each day for every European market, then add into that the different build specs, options etc, it's no surprise how things are so slowly trickling through to dealers here in the UK, let alone how complicated it must be to schedule all the builds together in sequence with the current chip shortage. The mind boggles.

I think our Tour must have been up and down those production tracks more than an itinerant hooker.

Interesting but not much different from anyone else.. If you've watched any of the channel 4 series.. https://www.channel4.com/programmes/how-to-build

I think it made a bigger deal than was necessary of the transfer from ICE to Battery.. it's a completely different platform and so the changes would have been needed whereas other manufacturers are shoeing batteries and motors into existing platforms. e.g. the electric and ICE/Hybrid minis are all built on the same production line. (See C4 link above).

1250 cars a week, a lot of Audi's ID.4s and 5s in that and sorry I only saw one RHD car on the video (12:00)

Interesting that the dashboard comes from another assembly plant ready made, but is that causing delays?

As the assembly modules get bigger and more complex, so the chance of delays is increased (because the assembly modules themselves need to be assembled).

As to the actual impact, it's impossible to know with the information we have, and VW aren't spilling any beans !
