Has anyone tried fitting an Ikea Billy Bookcase into a VW ID.3?
I'm balking at the idea of spending £40 on delivery for an item that costs £40.

Aren't they flat-packed like most Ikea furniture? I'd say you'd easily get a flat-packed Billy into the ID.3, so long as you don't have backseat passengers in there!
(might also not need a front passenger either, depending on box lengths...)

Yeah...its the length I was thinking about. Even with the backseats and passenger seat empty - would it still fit. I guess I have to get the tape measure out

IKEA will give you the box dimensions on their website - most of them are about 2m long (if you are looking at the extra high 2.4m ones, no chance - they only just scrape into my Octavia estate.)
Then take a tape measure to the inside of the car with the front seat as far forward as it goes and the back seats down. I reckon you'll probably get them in (2m ones) but it might be tight. Please report back

Pretty sure that I've fit those into a Clio with the back seats down and the front seat folded forward...

Unfortunately (another cost saving measure I assume) the front seat doesn't fold forward. Maybe something to do with putting ISOFIX on the front seat?
But whatever .. another annoying niggle..
Currently got a Yeti and the seats don't fold forward. You can recline them backwards far enough though that it allows similar. Don't have my ID3 yet but would have thought you could fit in a billy. Might want to take some padding for whatever it's resting on or against.G43FAN wrote: ↑Thu Apr 21, 2022 7:24 amUnfortunately (another cost saving measure I assume) the front seat doesn't fold forward. Ah, that's a bit of a bugger... Presumably it still slides forward though?G43FAN wrote: ↑Thu Apr 21, 2022 7:24 amUnfortunately (another cost saving measure I assume) the front seat doesn't fold forward. Maybe something to do with putting ISOFIX on the front seat?

Or else a Billy is thin so you could probably angle it in the gap between driver and passenger seats. You just need to be able to angle it diagonally a bit.

That's a Megane rather than a Clio, but shows what I mean about putting things on the diagonal.

Coincidentally I Just picked up a couple of IKEA bookcases my wife had ordered last week. When I saw the length of the longest pack (at least 2m I would guess) I thought there was no way I would get it in the ID3, but managed to squeeze it in by putting the back seat down and using the gap between the driver and passenger seat. As others have said the front seat doesn't fold forward, which I hadn't realised before. Good luck with yours!Turquoise wrote: ↑Thu Apr 21, 2022 9:03 amAh, that's a bit of a bugger... £40 is probably worth paying for not having to follow the Play School arrows before you get where you need to be.
Mind you SWMBO would argue that the £40 would be better spent on candles and soft furnishings (8-0)

Thanks everyone for your comments (and pics!) it did really help but I chickened out and got the Kallax unit instead (147cm). It fits the room better anyway but your comments gave me the confidence to have a think about other furniture I can try and fit in.
The Kallax unit fit in really well with only putting down two of the rear seats.

I love the fold down arm rests in the centre of the car... so its a shame they are so in the way when you want to load something long. Having said that I did fit some 2400mm timber for a project in the car (with the boot shut). However the wood was pretty skinny so it could negotiate the arm rests just fine!
