The headlights on the Y are plenty good enough in practice, but the matrix lights felt like a bit of a wrench it's true. I didn't have a HUD to start with, so I don't know what I'm missing there 🤷‍♂️

The matrix light thing is a strange situation on Tesla's. However, I don't think l'ordinary' leds are particularly poor. Do they have auto dipping?

Tesla fit matrix light hardware but the software controlling them doesn't do swivel/LED blanking or anything clever except auto dipping (which apparently can be problematic, but we'll see when the nights get darker!).

I think Tesla at some point in the future might roll out fancy matrix light features either standard or as an in-app purchase, but as ever with Tesla you're in the lap of the gods for dates and features. If it was a fart machine upgrade, they'd implement it next week of course...

What's the main differences between M3 and MY? Without having looked into it, from visuals alone, it would seem that the MY is to the M3 as the Golf Plus is to the Golf, but i'm probably being a bit simplistic.

Audi S3 - because I hate rapid charging for long distance driving.

A slightly more apt comparison might be Jetta/Tiguan, but your comparison isn’t unreasonable 😀

The interior is extremely similar, but you sit a lot higher in a Y than a 3 and the Y is considerably bigger both inside and out. Despite the visuals though the engineering of the Y is quite different to the 3 in several areas under the skin, with the 3 being considered the “inferior” and “less mature” approach apparently … I don’t consider myself qualified to judge 😆

What I can speak to though is the flexibility of the packaging (my Dad has a 3 so I have experience of both) and the Y comprehensively trounces the 3 …. and any other vehicle I’ve owned, including the old Tiguan.

I think I’d you were in the market for a “sports saloon”, with all the trade-offs regarding the 3-box layout that gives then you’d go with the 3. Literally anything else you’d go Y. Whereas I think in your example you’d need a very specific use case to go for the Golf+ over the Golf.

The release notes said that "Theater" would have Disney+, and it doesn't. Other than that, it's perfect so far !
Literally undrivable....

Delighted for you pal! Looks fantastic in the white as well. Glad to know it's alls well that ends well!

Tempted as I was to reject the car due to the lack of Disney+, it updated itself yesterday to a new software version over the air while we are away on holiday and now Disney+ works a treat.

Phew, potential disaster averted. Also, OTA software updates definitely work.

Having put 500+ miles in it getting up to and around Scotland, I haven’t found a single thing wrong anywhere and remain very impressed with the build quality and interior materials. There isn’t a rattle or squeak in the entire thing, and the much-maligned-by-journos suspension continues to convince me that motoring journalists are lunatics.

I am beginning to wonder whether I may have inadvertently drunk some Kool-Aid though, as all the classic annoyances listed out online just aren’t annoying me. The much-maligned automatic wipers, for example, have worked perfectly for us in all weathers between brilliant sunshine and cataclysmic sea/land reclamation. I don’t miss any buttons,, I don’t miss the instrument binnacle, I find the screen and menus easy to operate, and the voice commands are simple and work reliably.

Autopilot has been hugely impressive, and while it slowed the car unnecessarily a couple of times it was perfectly understandable why the car did it and while I suspect this is what people describe as “phantom braking” I didn’t really classify it as such given I could see why it was making the decisions it did. I’ve been a passenger in far more badly driven vehicles in my lifetime!

Refinement was subjectively better than our Evoque Autobiography, which has adaptive dampers. I got out of the Tesla after a 400 mile journey more rested than in the Landie, for the identical journey. SWMBO felt similarly, and she adores the Landie.

Return journey from Argyll & Bute Saturday morning. We’ll see how the return trip holds up!

What would you say the realistic range is at 70mph?

Realistically about 276 miles based on current live consumption and using 90% of the usable battery. Also bear in mind this is with the car full of stuff for a week away self-catering, so is heavier than usual. I haven’t adjusted the figures for the extra weight.

Supercharging from Oxford to Scotland was a doddle, and I topped off at Ionity Polmadie using a free Bonnet intro charge, which was also a doddle (though less of a doddle than the Supercharger, obviously)

ABRP is telling me that two short Supercharges (both less than 20 minutes) will get us home on Saturday, one at Tebay the second at Hilton Park. Our bladders won’t last that long anyway!

First road trip, zero range anxiety.
