Have you named your car?

My first car was a 1965 red Beetle. Initially my father's, it got passed down to me and then to my brother-in-law. My father named it Billy Beetle and the name stuck.

Since then I have never felt the urge to name any of my cars, until now. The new car seems to have a personality, more so than any car I've owned since the Beetle.

My ID.3 is called Heidi Flowerpot (I'm using the name as my screen name on here). Heidi, I know not very original, but a no-brainer considering the car is an ID.3. And Flowerpot because the terracotta dashboard insert on my car is the colour of a flowerpot.

My great-grand-children think it's great that she has a name.

Has anyone else named their car? How many of us now have a car called Heidi? Any other names?

Incidentally, the voice recognition can't tell the difference between the wake-up phrase 'Hello ID' and 'Hello Heidi' which pleases me. I'm easily pleased...

My wife calls mine the milk float, then I threaten her with not being able to drive it and she goes quiet...

Not into naming cars but the app insisted on a name.

So went really original and decided on Evie πŸ˜‚

Which TBH is what we call our cars anyway β€œSuperb, Leaf, BM” you get the idea.

I've yet to collect, but the car is already named Johnny. When I went to order, I was waiting for the car to go out for a test drive and as it slowly approached me, the noise it made took me instantly to Total Recall and Johnny Cab.
I'll get my coat... 🀐

Initially ours was called 'Edie Whizzard' but these days it's just 'The whizzy car'.

I call mine the Grey One πŸ˜‚
My wife has no interest in cars apart from seat heaters in winter so when she asks "what car are we going out in" as we leave the house I reply with either the Grey One or the Blue One. Both fortunately have seat heating!
If I say the Blue One with the roof down the response is generally
"I have just done my hair, can we keep the roof up" πŸ˜„

I haven't named the car itself, but I DO have a name for the "Hello ID" lady.

Unfortunately I don't think this forum is a suitable place to mention it!

Please help me understand why people call inanimate objects personal names as I really do not understand! A car is a car it will be the "the car" or the "effin car" if it is not working! I can understand puggy as that is shorter and easier to say peugeot (partner has a puggy)

It's human nature.

Our current car is "That Rattly Creaky Piece of S**t, I Told You We Shouldn't Buy It". I'm not sure if that's anthropomorphised, or simply proving your point πŸ˜†

Pug is shorter than Puggy.

I don't understand why people would give affectionate names to their car either. Did you ever see the Louis Theroux program about "car lovers" in America? There were people literally having a fluid exchanging relationship with theirs and other people's cars.
