New owner here and I’m getting frustrated with Pod Point so looking at other options.

Does anyone know if it possible to transfer the grant they got to another provider, and have that installed instead?

Thanks!

Welcome to the forum.
I guess you have paid but not wish to proceed with them?
I got that close but resolved matters with them thankfully and concluded it would at minimum cause a delay in approval if I switched to someone else.
My issues with Pod Point we're all routing related. They basically were not prepared to route any cables advising me to appoint a local electrician before they installed. In the end they supplied me cables that I installed and they just terminated. Completed last Tuesday.
Can you salvage anything with them. Terribly slow to deal with. Overwhelmed with work.

Mine was with Ohme rather than podpoint, but the installer didn't actually claim the grant until some time after job was completed. I think I actually had to sign that they had completed the job before it could be processed. So, unless Podpoint work to a completely different process then if you can get a refund of whatever you have paid, I don't think there should be a problem in subsequently claiming the grant through a different installer? (It's the installer who claim the grant, not the charger manufacturer).

Thanks guys, that’s very helpful

Our issues are routing related too - they came to instal and then decided they couldn’t without extra work, which is going to be another month away at least.

We had an electrician round today for some other work and he said he could do a Zappi reasonably quickl.

They don’t claim the grant until after work has completed. If you cancel with them they simply delete the grant in the gov portal and your new supplier files a fresh one.

Things may have changed, as our home charger install was back in 2019. Our experience was slightly different to others in that we switched to PodPoint having started initially with another home charge point provider. The switch did cause delay in install, it took ages for the grant paperwork to be approved by PodPoint.

Interestingly the same installer who did the initial survey with the other provider then arrived to do the PodPoint installation. Said they were an independent contractor and at the time it was not them who claimed the grant but the company providing the home charger. Even back then the installer was booked solid for several weeks in advance. With other bookings stretching several months in advance. We had to make do with the so called granny charge cable after taking delivery of the EGolf until the PodPoint was installed.

Cannot imagine how busy installers are these days. Not even sure they bother with a survey based upon comments I have seen. After the survey, we did go to the trouble of getting our electrician to install the cable run from the area in which the supply box existed to the area where we wanted the PodPoint installed. The run was longer than was allowed for within the install price and we wanted the cable run to be obscured as much as possible rather than just run direct between the two points.

We like the PodPoint, the charge time is controlled from within the car. We have not had a single issue in all that time, except recently when there was an electric supply issue down the road and they shut the power off for the entire street.

Get the Zappi. Bit more expensive, especially if you don’t have solar panels. We had ours fitted by a local leccy. We agreed a date, he came round, fitted the Zappi plus a fair bit of cabling, fitted a dedicated, small consumer unit off of the leccy meter. Job done, 3 hours, all working. You get what you pay for these days.

I was doing some research and Ohme called me - they said as you’ve confirmed, that nothing happens until it’s installed.

So the next question is how easy would it be to cancel with Pod Point? Anyone have experience?
