Hi all,

Does anyone have a rough idea as to how much it will cost to repair a damaged bottom front grill on a ID3?

I would start by getting a price for the part from dealer. I have found from owning (and damaging) several VAG cars that these types of trim pieces don't generally cost a lot and they are pretty much push fit. Main issue I see is the removal a refit of the parking sensors but, once again, these do tend to just be push fit. I reckon a Phillips head screwdriver and some patience could see you replacing it yourself with no real issues.

I see you have the same collection of leaves behind the grille at the back as I do in mine. I'm wondering at what stage the whole grille becomes blocked!

Ouch quoted £264.14 by VW dealer today! This may have to be a self-fit job me thinks.

Try calling your local TPS - https://tps.trade/
Much cheaper than through a dealer, but still Genuine VW parts as they are part of VW. (They are officially trade only but I buy all the time over the counter)

Ugh. Dumber than rabbits and a much bigger bill when you hit them. We have loads around here, normally pecking their own dumb reflections in our garden windows.

My local TPS refused to let me buy an EGR for a Golf. I ended up doing a price match from AutoDoc and buying from Eurocarparts. It was £186 compared to a TPS price of c£500. Eurocar parts was initially over £600.

That's fine for mechanical parts with equivalent performance to OEM. For trims and body parts, you've pretty much got to go to the dealership parts dept or (if they allow public to buy - some do, some don't) TPS.

I'm guessing somewhere between £45 and £70 for that grille. The parking sensors will almost certainly be fitted and removed from the back.

I know an independent VW specialist mechanic who only uses genuine parts. If I ask him very nicely he orders genuine parts I need from TPS, and we settle up in cash - or bottles of wine.

I've had my bottom grill damaged by some shrapnel that hit my car on the motorway, luckily it only damaged the bottom grill. However, I've been quoted around £850 to have it repaired. The biggest chunk of that cost is the radar because apparently, they need to disconnect it and recalibrate it once they take off the entire bumper. The part is £80 with £200-ish worth of labour. I just don't know what to do now 🤦‍♂️

Assumming that is a VW Dealer quote, I would suggest trying a reputable 3rd party bodyshop for an alternative quote?

Yes, this was from an approved VW dealership. I'm going to try another approved VW bodyshop (in a chain of dealerships) and hope for a better price. I was taken by surprise by that kind of price!

EDIT - just seen you've already found the part for £80.. anyway....

£80 on Ebay.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/234605623553 ... R_TbhM-4YQ

Looking at the pictures its only clip fastnings (no screws). I expect if you can drop the undertray at the front you can get it all done without having to remove the front bumper. I'd be gettingthe one off ebay and taking it to my local non dealer bodyshop and saying heres £100 - fancy having a go...

At least two complete bumpers with grille on ebay for £230 ish as well..
