New Car - Harsh Suspension
After 9 months of waiting i've finally taken delivery of my ID.3 Family Pro Performance. First impressions are all generally good and as the test drive I took last year. The one thing I have noticed is that the suspension is terrible - hitting even the smallest of pot holes returns a shocking bang. Also the damping seems very very poor, you hit a bump in the road and the car seems to bounce a few times afterwards. Both myself and the Wife have commented on how harsh the ride is. I've checked the tyre pressures and they were too high so reduced these to the 36PSI recommended on the car but its made virtually no difference. I do have the spork pack on the car and the overall spec is below. Has anyone noticed this harshness in the ride? Just wondering if its because its brand new and all the rubbers need to bed in.

Happened to me and my Golf R in 2015 - absolutely wrecked the top suspension mount bearings, that needed replacing at the dealership's expense. OP should Jack up the front wheels, one at a time and have a feel around under the rubber gaiters over the shock absorber to see if any are there (there are no pucks on the rears. They're about 15mm deep, about 60mm diameter discs with a cutout so they can be slid onto the shock absorber shaft ' they look like pacmanand are usually blue or pink.andrewparker wrote: ↑Sun Jun 19, 2022 4:17 pm They’ve not left the transport blocks in have they? Other thing to do is check the tyre pressures. They're filled to 50ps fir transport,to prevent tyre flat spots and are supposed to be reduced to circa 36psi at PDI before handover.

Comfort mode will do nothing for ride comfort, unless DCC is fitted. Without DCC, the damping is not adjustable on the car.
Most likely is high tyre pressures, with the transport puck possibility much less likely, unless VW added more pucks - that was the excuse the dealership offered me for my Golf R - there used to be 2 pucks per front shock and VW started adding 3, so the tech pulled out 2 and thought the job was done.

Well to my shock (no pun intended) I've found the problem and thanks to @andrewparker who pointed this out - 3 transport blocks in each shock absorber. Cannot believe that this has got missed by the supplying dealer whom i'm waiting a response from as we speak. I've removed them as its very easy to do and its a completely different car. You have to jack up the front of the car (no need to remove the front wheel) and lift up the shock gaiter, there were 3 in each side.

You need to insist that the top mount bearings are replaced, those transport pucks will have wrecked them.kse39m5 wrote: ↑Mon Jun 20, 2022 9:37 am Well to my shock (no pun intended) I've found the problem and thanks to @andrewparker who pointed this out - 3 transport blocks in each shock absorber. Not sure I would have removed them.. I would have called VW Assist and had it recovered, making sure that VW and (if applicable) VW Finance are involved. The dealer needs to take a lesson on that. Be interesting to see what they say about the top mounts.
I had 2 leons in a row with same issue, when i swapped for a skoda superb i had it jacked up to check also but was fine

Used to be a long standing joke on the Briskoda forums about the amount of Skoda cars that were given to customers with them still in place.
It's weird.

Honestly, it would be unbelievable if it didn't happen so often. Glad you found out the cause though.kse39m5 wrote: ↑Mon Jun 20, 2022 9:37 am Well to my shock (no pun intended) I've found the problem and thanks to @andrewparker who pointed this out - 3 transport blocks in each shock absorber.
