Clicking sound when accelerating and braking
From past 3 weeks I am hearing clicking sound from outside of the car when accelerating and braking.
I booked in the car with VW Reading and the issue is that the drive shaft seal is broken. VW Reading can't fix it because they don't have tools to fix it .
I have to go to the VW Oxford to get it fixed which can take upto couple of days.
Anyone else had the same problem?

Ooh, interesting. I've been on the cusp of posting something similar myself. Yes, I've started getting a click when either braking to a stop or accelerating from a standstill. I tried rocking the car back and forth on the driveway between drive and reverse and can quite reliably reproduce it.
It's a relatively new sound, though it does contend with the creaking coming somewhere from the back of the car...
Better get it booked in again for the 5th time in as many months.

ID specialist Technician said that he was hearing the same sound from other ID3 cars from past 3 weeks. Technician reported this to the VW headquarter.
My ID3 is with Oxford VW and it can take upto a week to get it fixed

Same issue with my car.
I suggested to the technician that it might be driveshaft related, based on what I'd read here. He confirmed that was the case, and said there was a TPI out for this problem (presumably that's a technical bulletin for a known issue).
It's quite a big job, so they want the car for three days, but fortunately all the parts were readily available (unlike several other parts my car needs), and my dealer can do all the work themselves, so everything is booked in for the repair in a few weeks.
I had another issue which might be related; a slight pull to the right on acceleration, and a slight pull to the left on lift-off / braking. It's been investigated, and nothing was amiss, so the thinking is that it could be caused by the driveshaft fault. Will see if the driveshaft fix sorts this too.

Hmm, so I have been thinking I have a loose something in the boot that I couldn't find and now reading this I suspect not.

Well, this has been sorted now. The clicking sound has gone.
From a quick run through of the work sheet, it sounds like the scope for the TPI includes dismantling the drivetrain on both sides of the car, checking some sort of adhesive bonded driveshaft joints, and re-bonding them if required, then a full alignment check on completion.
The slight right / left pull does still seem to be an issue though, some further investigation might be required here. Might check the tyre pressures just in case they're really off-kilter.

I've had this issue twice with mine. The second time it took it back they claimed not to be hearing it. I had to video the noise whilst going up a multistorey car park to provide enougfh evidence for them to act. They haved to take the whole driveshaft apart to do the work which is a major pain so they really didn't want to do it!
It was quite a few months ago I shared the audio clip of my id.3 doing this. Just to follow up, it went into the dealer, who firstly claimed not to be able to reproduce it. I had to go back in and drive with a technician. Took 5 seconds to replicate.
Then they claimed the brake pads had a bit of play in the calipers, took them out and applied some (copper?) grease. It made no difference. Car still makes the noise, I've just learnt to ignore it.

Oops, sorry - I'd cleared it out in a recent purge. Try now.

Thanks mate!
Hi, I'm in to work with a different service provider on the 20 for this. Sandyford vw are saying there is no noise and it's been with them twice. Any idea what the tpi is. I managed to get the workshop manual for the car and trying to look up the issue myself

Got the same issue on mine.
Do you have a copy of the work sheet from the garage, that you could share ?
Obviously without your personal details.
Cheers

Unfortunately I didn't get any paperwork from the garage, they just talked me through what was on the work sheet when I picked the car up.chillyboy123 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 26, 2023 1:22 pmHi mate,TheJimster wrote: ↑Thu May 11, 2023 9:15 pm Well, this has been sorted now. The clicking sound has gone.

Folk have been finding some dealers more helpful than others, but it's clearly a recognised problem. My dealers initially claimed that everything was fine, but I got a road test arranged so I could actually explain things directly to one of the technicians, and that did the job.
