I have had a dash cam for a while and take it from car to car as I change them.

However, as we know the 12v outlet is in the boot and we only have USB C in the front. I recently bought a lead to convert USB C to 12v car cigarette output.

It seemingly works. I have not stuck the camera in, it is laying on the floor but it works as I would expect it to.

Bought on Ebay

What is the camera, or what is the power connection on the camera? I'd be surprised if the actual port is not a mini usb a (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USB_hardw ... ectors.svg). Then you'd just need a C-A Mini converter and don't need to convert 5V > 12V > 5V.

Its solution that seems to work. I have no idea about the technicalities, sorry. I am more concerned about where to stick the camera!

I am using an old, very old, Transcend DP200.

Hi
I decided to fit 2 individual dashcams one front and one rear. But was disappointed when picking up my ID3 that it did not have a 12v socket in the front of the cabin. The solution as far as powering them was fit a 12v plug to a 2-way 12v outlet in the boot. The rear dashcam was powered direct from the 2-way outlet. A 12v extension cable was then run from the boot to just under the driver’s seat. The front dashcam was then fitted just under the rearview mirror housing and the wire hidden under trim around the windscreen and dashboard, to connect to the new 12v socket under the driver’s seat.

I used the Nextbase hardwire kit to connect mine straight to the fuse box. It's not really that hard - I didn't have to cut or otherwise permanently modify anything.

Nextbase iQ is the latest iteration of dash cams and it takes its power from the OBD port. Be warned, it's a subscription model to make it work.
