Electric Drive Not Working Correctly Error
"Electric drive not working correctly. Please visit workshop"
Sadly, my VW dealer can't fit the car in for another three weeks.
Looking in the various forums, there's been a few suggestions, including a factory reset of the infotainment system, disconnecting the 12v battery and charging to 100% and leaving it for a day. None of which has worked.
The car seems to drive OK and, apart from the warning, I can't see any adverse effects.
Just on the off-chance, has anyone had a similar problem and, if so, any tips?
TIA

If you want to get it fixed sooner - call Vw assist and say your car has a take to workshop error and needs “recovering” to the garage. If the car is recovered to them (emphasise this) you get a hire car and they are supposed to investigate (not fix but investigate) the fault within 48 hours…
Sorry, daft question. I guess this “recovering to garage” is only applicable to cars under warranty?MotMot wrote: ↑Fri May 26, 2023 7:37 am If you want to get it fixed sooner - call Vw assist and say your car has a take to workshop error and needs “recovering” to the garage. It has been reported a few times before, for some it seems to be just a glitch, for some it has required a control module to be changed, for some it has been a problem with some part of the drive train (battery cooling system I've seen reported a couple of times). So best to get it checked out. Unfortunately the error message is very broad!Rwaggers wrote: ↑Fri May 26, 2023 6:30 am 20230522_173128.jpgA week ago, a message popped up saying:

I wouldn't personally mess about with the car in any way other than resetting the infotainment.

I had the same issue, vw assist came out and said they can recover the car but it will sit there until it’s scheduled appointment in 4 weeks. There too busy but if there’s a cancellation kind of story.
Our light went off after a long drive and at the appointment you guessed it no fault found!
I certainly wouldn’t want to own one of these outside warranty, I think as years pass there’s going to be some big bills

I had this last year, it was on for over 3 months without any noticeable drive problems. I mentioned it to the dealer when the 12V battery/2.4 was done. They had to order a new coolant pump for the HV battery, after this was fitted there hasn't been any further problems. Just to add, it only showed when you moved the car, even just a few feet.

My 2022 ID3 went in for another issue three weeks ago where the radio would randomly come on in the night and the heated seats would randomly turn on and off as well as the infotainment system shutting down mid journey.
The dealer did an update and although there were no
Error codes stored they had it for a week and hoped the update fixed the issues.
Well this week the car has another error message, The Electric Drive is Not Working Correctly. This comes on every time I drive and stays on. It drives fine with no issues but it was booked it into my dealer this morning.
I’ve just had an update and it has to be sent on a low loader to another service centre in a different part of the country as there is an issue with the Battery cells. This type of work can only be completed at a specialist centre.
The dealer has no courtesy cars available and they have asked the specialist centre if they can provide one. I have a feeling I know what the answer is going to be.
My dealer has no idea when it will be repaired so it could be a few weeks at least. Had I know what a joke owning an Electric car would be I would never have bought one.
Let’s see what time scale I am given. [/img][/img]

Nick1892, your issue has become fairly common since the 3.2 update.
I understand the 3.2 software is more sensitive to variations between battery cells than previous versions so is more likely to throw up this error if (eg) it detects a difference in voltages between cells. This is why the battery check recall is specified with the 3.2 update and is supposed to be undertaken first. However quite a few people have had the error come up after the update. It doesn't actually mean your battery has a new fault, just that the software is now more sensitive than it was before.
The more sensitive software may well be a good thing long term but the implementation is a bit of a mess in my opinion - they should have qualified more battery competence centres before allowing this situation to come about.
You shouldn't have had to hand your car in for the update without being given a courtesy car.

So a bit of an update sorry for not posting sooner.
My ID3 has been at the dealer for over 4 weeks.
Thankfully the dealer gave me a courtesy car which is an ID5.
In that time while my car has been parked at the dealer some how the rear screen was smashed and had to be replaced and now the car is eventually at the repair centre they are now waiting for a part that is on back order from RUSSIA. They have no idea when this part is likely to be back in stock either. So I expect an update in the new year.

This just happened to me. I think it might have been caused because I changed the Charging settings in the app from "Charge to 100%" to "Charge to 80%" while the car was plugged in.
I reset the infotainment system twice (press the bottom left on/off button for about 20 secs) before I went to bed, but the error was still there, so I reset it again in the morning before turning the car on, and now it's gone. Went for a drive and it hasn't come back, so am hoping (in my case anyway) it was just a software glitch.

Just as an update to this thread for those whose cars need a replacement battery module or are worried about it.
It seems parts became available from early January. I saw several Enyaq and ID owners on speakev and Facebook groups who got their cars back after a module replacement.
My own car went in 3 weeks ago and I was told a couple of days ago that parts have now arrived (at Inchcape Chester - I just hope they are right) but it's fifth in the queue.
There might still be some parts shortages and some garages might still have big queues of cars waiting but I think there is light at the end of the tunnel now.

My car has this same error message after charging yesterday. It was set for 80,,%,I thought but it went on to 100.
Garage cannot investigate for a month ! Suggested calling RAC , ( as no longer in VW assist)
He came plugged in his tablet and got various meaningless error messages to him .
Anyway he reset somehow , which cleared it yesterday.
But its back today !
Drive seems ok - looks like it's got to wait for the dealer , all local VW dealers are booking 4 to 6 weeks ahead . Oh boy .

Well we've just got this error message. 5 weeks but only 50 miles after an update. The dealer wants £140 to look at it as it is now 3 weeks out of waranty.
Charge to 100% and check cell voltages with car scanner. If deviation is over 0.01v then you have a bad cell and module needs to be replaced.Folkramfer wrote: ↑Tue May 28, 2024 5:40 pm Well we've just got this error message. 5 weeks but only 50 miles after an update. You would notice this as reduced range but it only takes a minute to check for peace of mind.
