Hey everybody.
So what’s everyone’s understanding of future EV VED? Am I thinking it could be as much as £390?

Post 2017 EVs are to be taxed at £180 (may increase with inflation) from April 2025. Same as many ICE.
EVs bought from 2025 will be subject to £390 (ditto) luxury car tax if they cost over £40k.
Both these things may change, they are just policy proposals of an outgoing government.

I would imagine it would be the same as our old Hybris £165 probably £180 by the time they tax EV's.
But as other people have pointed out a change of government could change these proposals.

My thoughts are that the structure of taxation needs to adjusted. We had a Fiesta 1.0ltr petrol and it is zero for taxation. I can not help but think to tax that less than a BEV just doesn't make any sense.
The same goes for 'luxury'. A battery costs £££ and we are lugging it around rather than immense luxury. The cost of a BEV is high but it doesn't mean it is full of luxury.

I think you will find that the politicians who control these decisions, don’t do “sense”.
Tax is a means to raise income as well as to incentivise- or disincentivise something. It strikes me the present uK VED policy does neither especially well.
Which sums up the govt really - no strategy.
Anyway - I renewed my car tax this morning and it took less than a min once I’d found my V5. Seems like no brainier.
