Hello. Thank you for this forum, very informative and helpful in our decision making. :)

We’ve been driving a self charging hybrid for 7y but got solar panels and a charger at home now, so thought we’d take the plunge.

Picked up this 22 plate ID3 Family today, with 20k miles on.

It’ll take some getting used to, but it’s a lovely drive so far. A couple of questions:

1. The software is v2.3.0 0910. This sounds out of date. How do I go about updating? I haven’t connected the car to Wi-Fi yet.
2. There’s one ‘report’ and when you tap it says ‘Please have the vehicle inspected’. Any thoughts?

Many thanks
Oli

Welcome. I’m no expert but fortunately we have some very knowledgeable people on this forum who I am sure will advise you at some point. I’d probably get it booked in at a dealership to have the software updated to the latest version. Also get them to check your battery as some, like mine, had a faulty module. They will replace the faulty one, if your’s needs replacing. There are a lot of cars to get through so you may have to wait a while and be without your car for a while but they will provide you with a courtesy car. Best to get it sorted though.

Welcome!
You can book at any dealership to have the software updated. As noted above it is possible that the new software (version 3.2) might detect a faulty battery cell (not detected by the older versions) so worth being mentally prepared for this and doing it well before the warranty expires just in case (although theoretically that would be covered by the 8 year battery warranty). Fingers crossed it'll sail through and you'll get the benefits of the new software without any hassle. If not, I like to think of it as getting a new battery module for free.
The new software will get you reliable scheduled charging, more info in the driver display, better navigation, plug n charge (on a very limited number of chargers) and slightly better efficiency. The screen is arguably a little less laggy once up and running, but still a bit slow to boot up, and you have to press an "ok" button on startup every time.
The inspection message is saying that the car is due a service. It's supposed to happen after two years (unlimited mileage). If the car had that done before purchase it'll just mean the dealer didn't reset it. If not, you should get it booked in (unfortunately this'll probably cost you a couple of hundred quid). You can get it booked in for the service and software update at the same time.
Family is a good spec, ours is very similar (Jan 22 Family with 23000 on it). Enjoy!

Thank you for the warm welcome and helpful replies!

I’ve always been a car guy. So when looking for our first EV it was important the car had a little ‘something’ and had an active/enthusiastic community. The ID3 fits the bill!

Hi olriley,

As a former hot hatch guy myself, you will not be disappointed I think.

I would have been drooling back in the day to have a car that looks this good, with decent acceration, nice handling and suspension (with the weight under the floor not stuck up front) and cool interior.

Not the greatest software (app connectivity etc.) but hopefully the software upgrade may sort that.

There's a shed load of negativity at the moment about EVs, (trade in values and such), I'm going to hang on to this car so am ignoring the naysayers.

Correct, just checked the VIN of my old iD3 Family, shows as needing 3.2 update but I had it done.
