Hoping someone can help with this one as I’ve tried to find an answer on various forums and am having no luck.

I got a used 2022 ID.3 family pro 58kwh on Monday and everything was working fine until Wednesday when the infotainment system started glitching. It was fine driving to and from work on Wednesday but when I went out in the evening I was driving and the infotainment system was switching itself off and on again over and over, it would maybe stay on for 1-2 minutes before it restarted again and in this time my music would pause and unpause itself multiple times. In between restarting itself I managed to update the software as I had a notification that an update was available and thought it might fix the issue, it did not. I did multiple hard resets by holding the power button down which did absolutely nothing and I reset it to factory settings, still no luck.
Upon exiting the vehicle at the end of my journey the system was still rebooting itself over and over even when the car was locked. This carried on for about half an hour and after me messing about with it for long enough it finally started to work as normal again. I read somewhere that pressing the start/stop button to turn the ignition on and off might help so I did this but not sure whether it actually did anything.

I thought it was a one off as it has been fine since…until this morning. Upon unlocking the car and getting in, the infotainment system was turned on and music was playing, I assume it had been on all night as my battery level had gone down since exiting the car last night. I drove the car to my partners house, around a 20 minute drive, and the whole way the infotainment system was rebooting constantly. I tried hard resets and restored to factory settings but nothing seemed to help. When I got to my partners house and locked the car, the infotainment system was still rebooting and playing music. I called a dealer for advice but as it’s a Sunday they said I had to call back in the morning to speak to the service team. It seems to be working again for now but definitely needs sorting.

The car was purchased just over a month ago through the company I work for and the girl who was driving it before me said she never had any issues like this. So maybe it is a setting that I have switched on that is causing these glitches.

Has this happened to anyone else or does anyone know what might be causing this to happen as I am at a complete loss with it and getting very fed up

Hi had my Family Pro 58kw since January 23 from new and I can say it’s the worst software car I have ever owned I have screen just constantly spinning to load no audio climate control will randomly come on at full speed I never even turned it on ambient light always goes back to a white setting never stops on the choice we make and constantly get the new settings applied to your vehicle press ok to accept get this daily.
Going to ring dealer as had enough it’s not acceptable came with 3.2 pre installed so thought it would be ok but no it’s not. Never again with VW while they produce this kind of junk and let it be on the road

I believe there is a known fix for the new settings available thing. Otherwise, never heard of most of those faults, you obviously have a bad egg. Speak to your dealer.

You will need to take this to the VW dealer. The same thing happened to our previous Golf Mk8 and they had to fit a new infotainment control unit (dealer mentioned this costs £3,000 + fitting + VAT - fortunately was under warranty….). If you can get a video of the problem to show them that may be helpful.

Thanks, got it booked in with the dealer in September. Hopefully will be under warranty but they won't know until they look at it. In the meantime I'll just have to live with it I guess

Another one here. Never done it before, but it bounced itself as I pulled out of the drive yesterday. Some external software thing has upset it.

My ID.3 from 2020 has had the same issue that the info system randomly switches off and restarts itself over and over again. I reported this in spring 2023 to the local VW dealer in the Netherlands where I bought the car and they told me to do a hard reset of the system (pressing the power button for more than 30 seconds) that seemed to work. However, the problem reoccurred in spring 2024 and got worse. I’ve made videos while driving and shared this with the VW dealer. They acknowledged it’s a problem with some cars that can only be resolved by fully replacing the system. After inspection (yesterday) they claim it’s a replacement outside warranty and for my own cost… I hope you can help me with information that this issue was resolved under factory warranty?

You need to look at your warranty terms and conditions. In the UK the factory warranty is only for 3 years, except on the battery (up to 8 years). Once nearly 3 years old it's possible to buy an extended warranty on an annual basis, but if you don't then you're on your own.

My ID.3 also has this same problem since about September 2023. Last week on a warm Thursday afternoon (25c) I was finally able to film this looping behaviour on my phone. Today I called my VW garage and described the problem to them and they said this was a known problem and that VW were working on a fix that will arrive via OTA update.
Anyone else had the same reply from their VW dealer? My problem appears to be related to warm weather and perhaps some component over heating so I'm not convinced an OTA update will resolve it.

My partners id.3 had a glitch a few weeks ago where the seat heating switched itself on and the climate control set the temp higher several times, it been OK since, until now,. Also several times on getting to the car noticed to radio was on before getting in.

This weekend on Saturday it did it again repeatedly muting/unmuting the radio changing the temperature and switching seat heating on. Then on Sunday the screen kept switching off either fully rebooting or going black and then to the welcome screen. Over and over again.

Ugh.

my partners id.3 came back from VW this morning, they've updated it to 3.7, after getting back home the radio switched itself on a couple of times, and the screen rebooted and then switched itself on again after the car was locked :( i'll see how it goes over the weekend.

I was getting continuous reboots and found the fix was a factory reset on the car, i still get the occasional reboot but nothing like before.

Hi MattgID3, we did a factory reset but with no luck, when you do this & then re-logged on to the car again afterwards it says it'll restore your settings as they were, or did you completely start from scratch again (somehow?)

PS so far the screen & radio have stayed off since its initial glitch returning from the dealers & with the car locked, it'll be doing a few test drives over the weekend so 🤞

IMHO, it is a hardware problem that manifests in hot weather.
Do you have any updates?
What is the cost to fix the hardware?

i thought it was 'worse' in hot weather too, recently its more random, we had it the other week when it was cooler, and again this week (the last two nights mon/tues) i noticed the screen and radio were switched on at night (around 10-11?pm not sure precisely when it actually came on tho) , the screen was showing the welcome screen and occasionally rebooting & glitching .
I'm sure its a hardware fault most likely a result of (over)heating that's caused damage to the screen or control unit, in the summer & when it was at its worst, the back of the screen was really hot (much more so that the surrounding dashboard). I think now that's happened its more likely to recur too. The frustrating part is that it is a random issue you can't make it happen (so i've got lots of videos i've sent to VW).

Currently i'm still waiting on VW to respond. but the quotes i've seen from other threads/forums for a screen and/or the 5F control unit are not good, charging anything from £2k-£4k which seems crazy. (its probably a £500 part with 2500 labour at VW's prices;-) )

here's a comment from a recent message from the facebook id3 owners group https://www.facebook.com/groups/1678376285643713/

>A few weeks ago I took my ID.3 in as the screen wouldnt stop rebooting. They upgraded the software to 3.7. Then the seat and steering wheel heating kept coming on. Not ideal in 20+ degrees ! I >sent them a video as I didnt want to hear 'we cant see the problem ' . So they changed entire screen under warrenty. The invoice said £2,500. My charge 0.00.

Got the same issue, very irritating. Tried workarounds during a recent long trip. These workarounds seemed to help reduce the occurrence of the glitches.
- Switching the climate system off, if the glitch was that the temperature setting was increased automatically.
- Wired connecting of an iPhone ánd actively using the CarPlay feature, e.g. by playing music from the phone.
I hope that Volkswagen comes with a structural solution soon.
