Hello,

1. ) Extended Warranty
My ID.3 Tech is 3 years old this month (first registration Sept 2023, unknown date), and so I've gathered my initial warranty will expire. I own the car outright so am keen to purchase the extended cover and have done the quote online, coming back at about £225 for the year with £100 excess (£190 with £250 excess).

Does anyone know how I find out exactly when the 3 years are up please, or does it not matter precisely? I have to specify a date for the extended cover to start from so am keen to line these up for obvious reasons.

2.) Service Plan
It passed it's first MOT this week, and had it's first service last year at the required 2 year interval. Next year it'll need it's 3rd year service and a second MOT, then as far as I'm aware it won't require a 3rd service until it's 5 years old. Currently being quoted £297 for the plan which includes 1x MOT, 1x Service and the other (cheap) additions like pollen filters etc.

Does that sound about right? I'm sure when I purchased it last time around it must have been on offer as I remember it being more like £190.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

I'm pretty sure service is every 2 years. To me £297 for the service plan is overpriced, last time I got the same deal for £199. Shame they don't do the all in deal ( 2 years warranty, 2 services and 2 year breakdown cover) for electric vehicles?

I read somewhere on here it was 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 7th and so on? I'll recheck.

Yeah, that rings a bell actually - £199. Thought even that was fairly expensive to be honest., although there is a deal for 20% off at the moment but not sure if that price is post-deductions. A combined all in one deal would have been ideal..

Some dealers were saying it was 2 years, then 2 years on, one year off originally. But it was cleared up subsequently that it's just every 2 years (unlimited mileage). It has been on the VW website, probably still is with enough searching.
The £199 deal included one service and one MOT. They don't do much, but compared to the costs people have been quoted when just ringing up the week before, it seems like a bargain.

It's definitely only once every two years, irrespective of mileage. I posted this screenshot from the VW site on here recently:

About the first registration date? Is it not on your v5?

For the latest registration change you can also find this on the Gov website by entering the registration https://vehicleenquiry.service.gov.uk/?locale=en. Doesn't help if you're not the first owner though.

Well, that’s interesting. Mine says first registration was 22 December 2023 but the car (app) says my first (2nd year) service is due on 20 August 2025.
How does that work? Is the date calculated from when the car was delivered to the dealer?

My ID.3 Family turns 3 years old next month.
The Inchcape dealership recently sent me an offer to extend the warranty by 1 year for a payment of £528
I assume it was intended to be a joke!

Inchcape has recently been taken over by an American group. They are now called Group 1.

AFAIK the extended warranty is under VW financial services? THere is an option on their website to cost one up.

I've gone ahead with the service plan for £24.80 monthly (or £297.60 per year) because needs must really...

My V5C states 30th September 2021 for the first registration, so I'll have a gap of just over a week between my original cover expiring and my extended starting on the 9th October 2024. Coming in at £221 (or about £22~ monthly, totaling £261). VW won't let you start the extended warranty more than 60 days ahead, or less than 30.

Just to back up what Motmot said, you need a VW quote rather than a dealer quote.

Does anyone on here know why VW do not offer the All-in service, MOT & Warranty deal for any EVs? Seems bizarre to me.

I'm also being quoted £31 pm for a VW 1 yr service plan that includes Inspection Service (whatever that is), pollen filter, Brake fluid change & MOT. Seems well expensive to me!

Any helpful comments?

just quoted £430 mot and service from VW main dealer LOL. Small chain locally £127 EV main service. £45 mot and includes a brake fluid check. Well under 50%. They know how to keep their customers happy.
