Swapping front a rear wheels for treadware

The rear tyres I have inherited on my ID3 are unsurprisingly more worn than the fronts.
Is it typical for people to have fronts and backs swapped to even out the life if the tyres ?
Do you just swap the wheels and the tyres ?
Would I be right in saying that you would need to get wheel re-balancing (or something) done too ?

Thanks. Do you go down the garage and pay somebody to do this for you ?
I feel like I ought to be able to do it myself, but just don't have the tools these days.
EDIT > I mean the swapping front to back
I go down to the tyre shop where I get my tyres from.
It only costs 20 euros to get 4 tyres balanced/swapped. By the time I drink my coffee the car is ready.
They have a scissor lift with rubber pads, wheel balancing machine, air compressor, impact wrench, torque wrench, tyre inflator, etc. etc.

Related question - there are small plastic covers over the wheel nuts and a tool in the boot to pull them off with.id3_life wrote: ↑Wed Nov 27, 2024 8:47 am I go down to the tyre shop where I get my tyres from.

Do they simply push back on ? There doesn't seem to be any 'click' so I feel like they will just vibrate their way off eventually.
Feel like I'm missing something.
I would not swap them until you have driven the car for a few thousand miles yourself to judge whether it is worth it. I have heard of others swapping front/rear on ID3s but I have never done so and after 26000 miles all four are fairly evenly worn, at most there is half a mm more tread left on the front. It must depend on driving style I guess.

Not missing anything, no click, just push them back on, its impossible to lose one, they fit very tight.Batterdry500 wrote: ↑Wed Nov 27, 2024 2:37 pm Related question - there are small plastic covers over the wheel nuts and a tool in the boot to pull them off with.

Wish they would come on all cars.
All my wheel nuts eventually get scratched/rusted, these plastic caps look brand spanking new on my 15yr old car.

Reason for doing it is that I bought the car with 5mm front and 3mm back.sidehaas wrote: ↑Wed Nov 27, 2024 3:18 pm I would not swap them until you have driven the car for a few thousand miles yourself to judge whether it is worth it. I think makes sense to have swapped as I reckon, with my low mileage, they will now together settle at about 2 to 2.5mm by this time next year ready for a full new set ahead of next winter.

EDIT > or they could go longer. I might be overestimating the speed that they wear having previously had a silly car that ate a set of expensive rear tyres every 18 to 24 months.Batterdry500 wrote: ↑Wed Nov 27, 2024 5:07 pmReason for doing it is that I bought the car with 5mm front and 3mm back.sidehaas wrote: ↑Wed Nov 27, 2024 3:18 pm I would not swap them until you have driven the car for a few thousand miles yourself to judge whether it is worth it. What brand are they? The Bridgestones often seem to wear much faster than the others.Batterdry500 wrote: ↑Wed Nov 27, 2024 5:10 pmEDIT > or they could go longer. I don't know what brand they are....and I keep forgetting to check while I'm out there.
Either way provided the ID3 doesn't use tyres at a rate of 10p a mile it will be an improvement on my previous car.
