Perhaps it's too much to hope for an apology.
Our car is now connected and last night Octopus Intelligent Go did its stuff correctly.
Wouldn't it be a good idea if VW could put a brief statement, even "we have a server problem and are working on it." on the app instead of the erroneous "Your car is not connected to the internet."
A statement from VW updating users ? Possibly the user benefits of that might be outweighed by bad publicity.

Meanwhile the Down Detector website has been doing a good job of tracking the volume of issues. Seems to be settling down now.

My infotainment screen this afternoon. I didn't realise it was so filthy!

It's not entirely clear, but the time and temperature are bright white, but the graphics below are 'greyed out' indicating that although the car is in 'online' mode there is no current internet connection, also that the cellular signal strength is zero, and the cellular type is 3G. Over the last two days I've seen it showing E instead of 3G sometimes.

Interestingly, 3G is being phased out and according to Which? the only one of the big four providers still offering 3G coverage now is O2. Their phase-out begins in 2025.

I have no idea whether the phase-out of 3G is anything to do with the current problem we're experiencing with our cars.

Is anyone else still without internet connection, or have you all got it back now, and it's just me?

Ours are both fine now.
It should pick up 4G if available. The issue has been wider than UK so I don't think it's related to anything specific here.

Hi,

Ours has also not synced since the outage, and the app still says "Your vehicle currently has no internet connection". Rebooting the infotainment system and opting out and back in to data has no effect.

At a guess, they've not fully fixed whatever went wrong a few days ago.

Probably obvious suggestions...but have you

1) Completely closed the app by restarting your phone ?
2) Been out for a drive ? I don't know why but that seemed to clear out some of the remaining gremlins for me.
3) Charged the car (OK, stabbing in the dark here...)

Hi,

The car is also doing that thing with no bars of signal and an E above it (same as photo earlier in the thread) - so the lack of connectivity is visible in the car, not just the app. I've rebooted the phone, but no effect.

It's been like this since Thursday, and we've taken it out for several drives since then.

It has been charged, but that was Thursday evening when there was (seemingly) a much more widespread outage.

We don't actually use the app for much other than checking charging progress - the more annoying problem is that the satnav no longer has traffic data in this state.

Not sure how remote you live or how far you have driven...in case of possible problem with network locally ?

Beyong that I think my next stop would be VW.

Yes its gone on and off line several times over the last 3 days. I thought I had somehow caused the issue as I have only had the car a few days.
Also the 'privacy' setting in the CAR INFORTAINMENT keeps changing by itself to the highest setting, which seems to prevent the App communicating with the car.

My ID3 is still showing the 'E' and my phone still says "Your vehicle currently has no internet connection".

It has been sat on my drive most of the weekend. I'll be driving it for 45mins tomorrow morning to my workplace. If anything magical happens I'll let you know.

Might be worth checking the in car connectivity settings , make sure that’s all turned on - swipe down from top of screen, press globe icon. Mine used to reset frequently but sorted since latest updates.

Car offfline for 3days and 22hrs.

Greyed out globe and signal indicator with an E.

App says vehicle has no internet connection.

In the area of Bristol airport.

Car used daily in 60mile commute so plenty of oppertunity to find signal in a commute where signal existed for last 4 years.

VW customer comms arw dire.

I dont think this is due to the recent mass outage as 99% of people seem to be back on.

I would drive to a VW site and sit there until they fixed it, possibly blocking the main entrance :D

I'm still struggling with the app. I tried to pre-heat but the app will not refresh, just greyed out boxes with a pulsing white line going through them.

Our cars' connection to the app are both down again since about 9am, having worked perfectly yesterday. The symptoms are different, there is no warning message about lack of Internet, the app just doesn't have any information at all.

Update: My car's internet connection returned last night 12th January 2025. It went down on the 9th.

But now the app seems to be flaky. This morning all seemed well, it said it last synced with the car 1 hr 53 mins ago. I tried manually syncing ('synchronise now' from the bottom of the settings menu) and now it shows this:

Screenshot_20250113-123548.png

... or variations on that theme.

Note that the boxes that normally show beneath the car image showing state of charge air con are missing as are some of the normal menu lines below.

Aargh! I've had my car over four years, VW were struggling with their software for a year before they released the car so it's five years and they still don't have reliable software! It beggars belief.
