Just wondered if anybody is playing hide and seek with the yellow software update notification again ?

I've been on 3.7 for a couple of months. This last week on parking up I got the yellow message again saying there was a software update.

And same as with the 3.7 ....every time I go park up somewhere that I could be towed from, with >50% battery and lights turned off the message disappears.

Going round in circles with it.

Just me ?

And anybody know what this update might be, and more importantly how long it is meant to take ?....I remember that being guesswork with 3.7...and just need to plan when to park up and do it.

If I were a large car company with an update:-

I'd try it in the lab first, then I'd try it on some cars in the company fleet, and then all of them;
Then I'd try it on 1000, say, customers in the wild, then 10 000, then 100 000 and so on.

The way I'd do it would be to advertise the update to random cars or random cars in areas successively further from HQ, and deliver it to the first 1000 cars that accepted it.
So the advert would go away, or the update would be performed.

And then after 1000 had been done, it would come around for 10 000

I have no idea how VW do it, but I noticed that I was offered the previous big update a few times, it wasn't convenient at those times, and it was a decreasing while before the offer returned. (And eventually it was convenient, and happened)

Which fits the behaviour we have both observed.

Other explanations may exist, numbers are notional, the exact selection algorithm may be quite different, E&OE.

It's a verty small update, 15 mins max. I was below 50% and no problems. Not sure what it was for, somone here might know.

The latest update just says 15 minutes and I think for us it actually took slightly less than that.
I have never had much trouble getting the update to come back if I ignored it the first time. Suggest making sure the car has plenty of time to wake up when you first sit down - wait until the ID light stops pulsing white a lot before you press the brake pedal. Then drive it for a good few minutes at least before parking up.

It's something to do with the drive inverter but I have noticed no change.

Yeah, I read a release from them a while back explaining they do Canary releases. Although they may not do it for all releases but if they have the infrastructure to do it then I don’t see why not.

They roll the major updates out in waves for download, with the waves increasing in size. However once you see the message, the download in your car is already complete - this has happened in the background while driving. The yellow button is to initiate the installation process using the downloaded file(s). You don't lose your slot at that point.

I had the same as Midgex. Since end of November the car offered me the update several times.
Mostly at a inconvenient moment. As I tried a few dates later to install it, I could not find the yellow button again.
That happened four times now and I still haven’t been able to update the car till now.
Does anyone know how to find the yellow button again?

It's competely random unfortunately.

Finally in the end of me, after 5 previous attempts, I had parked up switched off and still no yellow indicator in the exit menu...then, just as I was about to get out and start hitting the car with a cricket bat the yellow indicator popped up out of nowhere.
