Door mirror woes

Every now and then I manage to lock the car with the door mirrors already retracted. No problem at that point. The fun starts when I unlock - the door mirrors stubbornly refuse to unfold. I've tried rotating the rather flimsy knob in all directions; exiting the car and then locking and unlocking with the control knob in every conceivable position. Eventually they reluctantly unfold but it takes time. I've even driven with them folded on two occasions - they have unfolded during the journeys after 10 mins or so. Has anyone else experienced these problems ? Any thoughts would be really gratefully received.

Not here but sounds like something is obstructing the mechanism and it may we worse when it’s colder.

Reopening an oldish thread but this has happened to us a couple of times, including this morning. Wife went to drive off and mirrors firmly closed. Moving the mirror opening switch did nothin, nor did locking and unlocking car. In the end I had to manually push them open so she could head off. Annoying.

Not had that problem, thankfully.
Just another thought. Why do the mirrors unfold when you open the door? I had a VW Polo as a loan car recently, and the mirrors on that opened and closed with the ignition. Seems much more sensible to me. The number of times I have locked, unlocked, locked, unlocked when I or a passenger has forgotten something they left in the car, and the mirrors are constantly opening and closing.

I like the current system as visual indication the car is locked.

If VW could write decent software, that could, and should, be on the app.

It is in 3.0.
Mirrors unfolding on ignition rather than on entry is definitely not on my Cupra Born that was delivered on 3.0, probably not going to be in the ID3's 3.0 either as they are essentially the same car under the skin. Not even selectable with OBD11.

Does anyone here in the UK think they will ever get 3?

Despite my previous comments, I think VW will eventually get something out to cars. if only to get them all to the same level of software fom a support POV. As has already become apparent, some features will not be supported due to hardware compatibility issues (sensors not being physically present being a hardware compatibility issue). Currently VW have cars out there with potentially 2, 2.1, 2.3 and 2.4.. and now 3.0 3.1 and 3.2 and they are all still within warranty. Bringing everything to 3.0 at least will be desireable to reduce the supported versions out there.
There is also the resale value to consider, a lot of cars out there will be coming back to VW forecourts and having a 2nd tier software version will devalue those vehicles?

You could be right. Rumours have it that the face lifted ID3 is coming shortly. I think that will do more to devalue the current version than most other things.

The press interpretation of a conversation with the CEO (I can't actually find any official VW press release for this) is fairly wild, but I think their theories that we're getting a totally redesigned car is about as accurate as anything they print. Minor cosmetic change to the outside and possibly the steering wheel will have buttons, I don't think we'll see much else different, could be very wrong. They aren't binning the MEB platform as one article I read recently (in print, not online) suggested, The article actually stated that VW executives were ready to abandon the ID.3 in favour of a redesigned platform "like the ID.4 and ID'5" and I presume that hack got paid for the article!!

Shocked that this last post is 2021!!
Ive had my ID3 for 18months, it was 12 months old when I bought it..
Just tried to get in and my wing mirrors will not open, either when I unlock the car, try to press the button on door rail, or set of at over 20 mph.
Not done it before except on occasions when it is frosty, only over the last 2 months, some times they havent opened when I unlock the car, but have always opened when I engage gear.

Any ideas, is it a software fault (I am booked in for next September for my dual upgrade) or a warranty fault?
Thank you

You don't press the knob on the door, you twizzle it. That brings them back to life. Needing to do that once every few months is common, but that not working isn't. Probably a hardware fault of some kind if you have the same symptoms as the OP.

I have issues with the door mirrors not unfolding. Using the facility once a month may be common, but I use it every day when putting the car in the garage.
My issue was that if I fold the mirrors to drive into my garage and put the car in park, the next time I want to get the car out of the garage, they don’t always unfold when I “twizzle” the control knob.
